My boyfriend and I are both approved for paypal cash back card, he got it one year before me, his starting limit is higher a little bit, and he has a little bit longer credit history, he has a little bit higher credit score, basically he is better than me in any way in credit. Today, I noticed the difference between our card, his card has world on it, and my card does not have the world on it. Obviously he has the better version of the mastercard, does that mean better credit will get the world mastercard, and bad credit will get the regular mastercard? Did anyone get the world elite mastercard paypal? How and why did some people get different versions of the paypal mastercard? Depends on the credit or something else?

Typically those designations are limit based, but not all lenders strictly adhere to it.

I'm little confused here though, isn't your card closed?

There are a variety of marketing strategies that target different accountholders for certain products. With the PayPal 2% MC, some individuals were upgraded and some were not. I honestly haven't read what (if any) additional benefits World offers on this particular CC when I received the upgrade. The lender is obviously getting slightly higher swipe fees.

This doesn't mean their credit standing was better off than others. It simply means they likely had an adequate spend on the card plus other internal factors that SYNCB considered at the time of upgrading from Platinum to World. By the way, you mentioned World Elite, this card isn't available in World Elite, just World.

I wouldn't lose sleep about it, to be honest.

I think someone was told it was spend based (although the accuracy of info from a CSR is always up for question). When I was sent the oh-so-important new design, I got the plain Mastercard, although the CL is $25,000. I hadn't put a lot of spend on it recently because of the 3% USAlliance (about to RIP)

I agree it is hard to verify the accuracy of that information, but I think what you said is reasonable. I thought everyone who has more than 10,000 credit limit will automatically get the world master, your example proved I was wrong.

You mentioned USALLIANCE Visa Signature, does that require geographical membership or open membership nationwide? Does one point equals to one penny? Do your points have expiration? Is there redemption option for cash, statement credit, check, or it is gift card only redemption?

@Anonymous I would add that the perks offered on the different card networks depends entirely on the lender (MC World, MC World-Elite, VS Signature, VS Infinite). It translates to higher interchange fees for the lenders, but doesn't always mean more benefits to the consumer.

Some cards barely have any of the features available to MC World or Visa Signature cards. I make it a point to always read through those card benefit brochures.

Also keep in mind that those benefits can and have been changing recently. I think the rental car collision damage waiver is set to be dropped from a lot of visa cards in the next month.

Just wanted to share, hope some of this is useful to you.

The good news is that a) it's open via joining something anyone can join b) points = 1c, c) I think they expire in about 3 years, d) statement credit, deposit to CU account, other options

The bad news is that the card switches to 2points per $ on Feb 1, and as redemptions are in $25 increments, it's not a great 2% card

MC cards have different default benefits but the financial instituion decides which ones are available.

There's a mostly definitive way to check for eligible benefits.

Go to the MasterCard benefits site and plug in the card number for each benefit. If it tells you it couldn't verify and to call MC, the card does not have that benefit. If it lets you continue filling out forms the card has the benefit.

I am focusing on my research on why some people get paypal regular master, and some people get paypal world master, I am not trying to research on the difference of the benefits.

I dont have one and i think 2% is just fine we should complain if there were only 1% or no rewards at all.

Sometimes my curiosity is too strong and it drives me crazy if I do not understand why. Many people told me that is a bad thing. But I will just continue my research does not matter if I can find an answer or not, simply happy researching.
