Upgrade From AMEX BCE to Amex BCP??

Hello, I currently have the AMEX BCE card. I logged in today and noticed an offer to upgrade to the AMEX BCP. Would this be a good move? I grocery shop a lot at Super Walmart & Walmart Neighborhood Market. I noticed Walmart is not on the list. Thanks

Super Walmart will only get you 1% in most (if not all) cases. Neighborhood Market I think does count as groceries.

I'd hold out for $250 with the AF due ($155 net) or $150 with the AF waived for 12 months.

I upgraded for the bonus and then downgraded again about 14 months later. Keeping a card upgraded for 12+ months is ideal to reduce the chance of attracting unwanted attention.

If you use your BCE at those places, how do they code in your statement?

Without a bonus offer, I'd probably pass. If you think the BCP may be a keeper card, apply for a new one with the signup bonus.

It depends on your spend levels.

When looking at just the grocery category, the break even point to absorb the AF is if you spend $61/wk on groceries. Of course, those $61 would need to be coded as groceries, so you'd have to look into that first with the places you typically make your purchases. Of course you can look outside of the grocery category as well to gas or anything else to see if you'd obtain any greater cash back from non-grocery areas.

I do agree with what all the others said though about waiting for a SUB upgrade offer. I started a similar thread to yours in probably late November or early December at a time that I had no SUB upgrade offer to go from my BCE to BCP. Within 3-4 weeks of starting that thread and talking about it I did see the offer pop up on my account to upgrade, $150 SUB and no AF the first year. I went with it.

You just made me check mine again. I've been monitoring it for several months now.

Hx:

I had no offers most of last year
Called Amex to inquire about upgrade offer. Amex told me that offer is tied to using the card. CSR advised I wasn't using the card much
I proceeded to dump several hundreds of dollars onto it over the next few months, always PIF
An offer appeared shortly offer but with no incentive (guess they want more spend. I believe they may be calculating based on % of total CL, I'd used ~2-3% at any given moment)
Decided I wanted to 0 out my cards for the new year. Did so
This month, the 1:1 upgrade with no bonus disappeared from my account entirely

I guess I'll just be stuck with BCE for the time being. I'm having to stretch my income more and more as costs have gone up and my salary has not so that's fine with me. At the very least, I hope I can provide some valuable DP to the community here.

It was a while back (2-3 years maybe) but I received the offer ($150 upgrade with AF waived) with almost no spend on my BCE. So I took it, then downgraded before the AF became due. Oh, maybe that's why the offer has got stricter!

How long before the AF was due to hit did you pull the plug on the BCP and initiate the downgrade? Any raised eyebrows from Amex on it?

I don't anticipate having to do the same thing when looking at my current spend, but you never know.

I waited till it posted. I haven't tried applying for another Amex since then, so I don't know if I would get the no-SUB popup

Correcting the record. Checked my amex on a desktop browser today. I finally got the upgrade offer of AF waived for the first year and $150 CB after spending $1000 the first year. Hooray! I didn't accept it yet. Have to plan out my spend which I'll be doing between today and tomorrow. I wish I knew how long this offer would be present on my account because I'm currently making good use out of the Best Buy 10% CB on utilities.
