American Express Delta Gold to Delta Platinum

I received the offer to upgrade my Delta Gold Card to a Delta Platinum card last night, so I went ahead and did it.

Question - Does upgrading to a higher tier card help with securing a CLI? I have had the card for just about a year, and have yet to receive a CLI, and have been denied every request that I've made.

I'm hoping that moving up to the Platinum card helps to push forward a higher credit limit.

No, it really doesn't.

Regardless of which card, CLI will always depend on profile.

The only difference is, if it was initial application, AF cards have minimum SL due to CARD ACT, since AF cannot be more than 25% of SL.

If you do a PC to card with higher AF, that restriction isn't applicable.

Have you been denied for CLI or just preparing to ask?

Would you be able to clarify the abbreviations of "AF", and "PC to card"? I'm new to the boards, and not familiar with these terms.

I have been denied the few times I've requested throughout the year for a CLI. I've used the card well, and have paid very well on it. This is my first card with AMEX, so I figured I had to build up some more history with them. But I was hoping that the upgrade to the Platinum showed some history/trust building.

AF = Annual Fee

PC = Product Change

SL = Starting Limit

Since @FinStar already addressed abbreviations, next question would be what were denial reasons?

Typically, Amex cards issued with lower limits on profiles with negatives don't grow much.

Also, if you're carrying a balance on your card, your chance of getting CLI from them might improve once it's paid off.

The one thing I like about Amex is that they don't put ambiguous reasons for denial. Whatever is on the letter, it's the reason why they haven't been willing to increase it so far.

It's not really score related as much as overall profile related. Just like any lender, they like to see low utilization, good payment history, no derogatory accounts showing on your profile, and of course higher income helps too.
