Closing Target Redcard

So I've reached the point where I am thinking about closing my redcard. It's really not a huge Benefit to have any longer the new restrictions on online orders has gotten me to the point of closure the card only had two benefits and now one has been so restricted it's a shame really . Last but not least to add insult to injury it's been almost two years since my last cli.

If you still want to get 5% off and occasional other types of promos, try the RedCard debit card version...especially if you get one while they have a coupon SUB going. I don't have mine attached to my primary checking account, but to a smaller miscellaneous account.

This is exactly how I use my Target debit card. Keeps it simple, and still beneficial enough.

You're not talking about the MC version though, right? Also, I'm like everyone else upthread....what new restrictions?

I've read here recently that forum peeps are posting about receiving cli's that haven't run much spend through their card nor haven't received any cli's and/or it's been longer than when you got your last cli. You may want to give it a little more time perhaps.

On those two reasons you mentioned, are you sure you'd not use it again? Not knowing about the waning benefits leaves me a tiny smidge perplexed as to how to answer that since reading cli posts as of late. I'd hate for you to miss the Redcard train. Though I wouldn't say hold your breath but still.....

What restrictions? There haven't been any. Some items must be purchased with $25 of qualifying products, not new, and done by Amazon and Walmart as well. Usually found on special purchase products, or very low cost items.

Ive had can't be shipped to your zip code a couple times, but was told that happens when a fulfillment near you are out of stock, and current inventory can't guarantee adequate receiving of shipment.

Phew. I think I noticed that awhile ago, but I'm glad that's the only issue you're having with them. As long as they keep the 5% discount for both in-store and online, and I can still get free shipping online somehow for when I really need it, I should be OK.

Thanks for clarifying. This is not actually a limitation of the credit card or a benefit which has been removed as stated earlier, however, as this is the case no matter which method of payment is used and was not something previously extended to cardholders and now taken away.

As @blindambition mentioned earlier, this is not unique to Target. Amazon and other retailers have long required minimum order amounts for some segment of products, typically household and grocery items which have slimmer profit margins than other consumer goods which would be vastly overshadowed by the cost of actually shipping the items.

Yep, this one has never bothered me. I'm always comparing prices and adding things to shopping list. I'm always over that anyways. I try and avoid multiple boxes and shipments. Just one bulk order.

Agreed and it makes so much sense for online retailers to restrict shipping smaller orders or items considering the staffing issues so many companies are experiencing in warehousing due to the pandemic.

I have found myself consistently annoyed with the inability to use many offers online. For people like me who can't go to the store, Target Circle offers requiring me to use Shipt (and thus pay more) sucks. Probably going to axe this card.

Don't use circles, I just bought something through the target app for $14.99, received -.75 discount, +.85 tax= $15.09 with free 2 day delivery, arrives Feb 12th.

I only keep my Target Redcard to get the 5% discount, I don't really use it because the limit is so miniscule. When I spend in store, I flash the Redcard at checkout and pay with another card that offers cash back. That way I'm double-dipping on the cash back.

? I've had my card for over 18 years and don't recall even once receiving the 5% discount until the actual payment was already being processed when the computer recognized that I was making payment with my RedCard. You're stating that the cashier at your local Target store(s) is/are manually entering a 5% discount simply for showing that you have the card? If so, I am very surprised that the cashier would even have that ability to manually add a discount without manager intervention. I know when ordering from target.com I only receive the 5% discount when using my RedCard MasterCard.

From the program rules:

When you use your Target Debit Card, Target Credit Card or Target™ Mastercard® (each, a “RedCard™”) at Target stores or Target.com, you will receive 5% off on your purchases. If you use a RedCard in the same purchase transaction with another form of payment, the 5% discount will apply only to the purchase amount tendered to your RedCard. 5% discount applies to eligible purchases minus any other discounts and the value of any promotional Target gift cards received in the transaction. Target reserves the right to discontinue or alter the terms of this program at any time.

You don't get the 5% percent discount until the cashier totals the purchases. I can verify this statement bcuz I worked at Target Customer Service..Very Odd how OP pulled it of at register....Hmmm!
