NASA mail offer

My wife got this off in the mail we have no relationship with NASA so I wonder Why we got it

its a 8.9% balance transfer for life

Waht are the credit limits they give ?
is this a good card ?

NASA is definitely more conservative than years ago. HP to join membership and HP to apply + SLs are definitely not Hubble Telescope impressive, not these days at least.

If wife has been seeking for quite a bit of credit in the past 12 months, save the inquiry.

@Jccflat I joined back in 2014 when there was a wave of apps here on MF. At that time, 740+ EX FICO 2 (Mortgage) got best rates. Max CL on any unsecured credit line is 30K and 50K across all unsecured lines.

I'm grateful that I joined. Their CC and LOC have been very beneficial to me. I regularly get 4.99% balance transfer checks from them.

They offer monthly EX 2 scores, and I agree with @FinStar - from what I've read, they have become more conservative since 2014.

Definitely agree NASA Fcu has become Conservative . I been a member since 2012 and they have been really a good Cu. I have the Cc and Ploc and always receive 4.99 BT checks.

As a counterpoint, I got a similar mailer in 2015 (7.9% for life) and searching Google for this CU I had never heard of before led me to these forums and kickstarted me getting my revolving balances paid down rather than just letting them stagnate as they had for years.

My scores were about 700 at the time (solely due to 90+% aggregate utilization; had a lengthy credit history with no derogatory info and no recent credit-seeking) and they approved me for $15,000 (then a $15,000 personal loan shortly thereafter with another mailer after joining). Considering the extremely high balances and every card I had being essentially maxed out at the time, my own experience was very good and I am still very grateful for that offer as I was paying thousands of dollars a month in interest and making no progress on paying down balances back then. This allowed me to clear off a card with a promotional balance transfer offer and over the next year I was able to finally start paying off thousands of dollars of balances every month rather than mostly interest.

I still have the card but have found it to be of limited use once it helped me rearrange my debt and the card was paid off. The rewards are not very good, I received my one and only targeted spend offer nearly 5 years after the account was opened, and while they do send out regular convenience checks the offers often have a BT fee in addition to a promotional APR (i.e. 3.99% for 12 months but also a 3% fee).

If one can qualify for a more traditional 0% for XX months with 3% fee or something similar on a card that may prove useful long-term, I would recommend going that route. Otherwise, the NASA offer certainly gave me a huge lifeline and certainly beat paying 13-25% interest as had been the case before.

It was pretty good when it was FotM (I got $30K SL with just a SP). The card got nerfed/changed, from a graduated 1/1.5/2% (I think all spend above $2000 a year got 2%) card to a flat 1.5% and so I haven't used it, except for the offer around mid-2020 where I spent whatever was needed to get the bonus money.

Apart from the card, the CU has some good products from time to time. I have parked some spare cash in their 'special' rate certificates and IRAs.

@Anonymous I'll never forget that feeling of getting the SP 30K limit!
