There is income ratio to credit limit with Chase to be concerned about. It's not a hard rule but it is said that Chase only wants to have their total credit limit with you to be about roughly 50% of your income. The more credit extended you have past 50%, 60%, the approvals can become marginally harder.

Let's say you have a $70,000 income a 35k Sapphire would possibly hurt your chances of having a new approval with a large SL. In some of those cases, it would result in a denial however at that point you might be able to recon and ask to have your credit moved from your other Chase card(s).

I have a couple questions about Amazon's Prime Rewards credit card. I found a thread from 2017 discussing this, but I wasn't sure about thread necro-ing so I figured I'd start a new one.

1. In the past it seems that the credit lines were notoriously small, like 1k to 2k, is this still the case?

2. Does a past relationship with Chase impact this credit line? I have had a Chase Sapphire with a 35k CL for 20+ years. Currently less than 1% utilized.

My present FICO is TU 850, EXP 839 and EQU 834. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, and congrats on your excellent credit profile! I don't know the story behind those old reports of low limits, but it's probably not something you should worry about.

I did a quick search of the Approvals forum for this card and here are the first few that popped up:

$5,000 Starting Limit. November 2020. 796 FICO. Link.

$8,300 SL. September 2020. 712 FICO. Link.

$4,900 SL. January. 672 FICO. Link.

$8,700 SL. January. 770 FICO. Link.

Of note, a couple of those approval posts report the instant approval message said their SL was $5k, but when the card showed up online, it had a higher limit. It seems Chase uses $5k as a placeholder. I don't think I've seen SL's on this card as high as your Sapphire, but I can't imagine they would give you less than $8k. Something around $10k - $12k seems likely.

Good luck, and let us know how you do!

With those scores you should have no issues getting a decent SL on a Chase Amazon card.

Provided that your income supports it, you aren't at a limit-to-income ceiling at Chase (usually around 50% of income), you're under 5/24 (5 or more new revolving accounts in the past 24 months will result in a denial), and you don't have baddies, especially a bankruptcy, reporting (which with the scores you show is probably not the case!)

They're usually on the more generous side for SLs, but a bit stingy on CLIs. But if for whatever reason you don't get the limit you want on your new card, it's easy to move limits between cards with Chase.

I don't know if you care, but Chase often hard pulls two bureaus for new card apps: EX and one other (TU or EQ depending on your location).

Lastly, if/when you apply, don't be surprised if the initial approval page/email says your limit is $5000. This is the max they show for this card on initial approval, but when you log into the Chase portal and view the account there, you'll see your real, likely higher limit. The $5000 is likely temporary since this card does allow you you to use it immediately on Amazon--you don't have to wait for the card to come in the mail.

I got the Amazon Prime Visa 3 years ago with a paltry $500 SL. I dunno if I should bother taking an HP to try and get a CLI on it or just close it and apply for a new card in hopes of getting a higher limit that way. This card is almost useless to me when I have the Sync PLCC with a $5k limit and several other cards in the 5 digits.
