New Chase United Quest card coming

TPG is reporting that certain existing United Platinum card holders are being converted to a new card, and that the card will also be launched as a new mid-tier product this spring.

$250 AF, $125 United spend credit back each year, two 5,000 mile points tickets rebates each year. Outlines a change in miles earning, taking away groceries and gas at 2 miles, for travel and restaurants for 2 miles. Priority boarding and first two bags free for the cardholder ( per person on itinerary ? )

No comment in the article about lounge passes, though with the Mileage Explorer card getting a few each year, I woukd expect something lounge related.

No word on SUB of course but the $250 fee structure makes it a bit interesting.

They're also finally converting the old Mileage Plus cards that predated the Explorer's introduction but were still baing maintained over to this card as well and it takes effect on March 21st.

Changed/added benefits:

3x miles/$ on UA purchases.

2x miles/$ on *Alliance purchases.

2x miles on all other travel.

2x miles on streaming services.

2x miles on restaurants.

1x miles on gas stations,home improvement stores, and grocery stores

2 x 5000 mile flight award credits each year on your card anniversary

$125/yr annual United purchase credit as reimbursement for United purchases charged to the account

Free 1st and 2nd bag for the cardholder AND for 1 travel companion on the same reservation as the cardholder if the flight is booked using the cardholders MileagePlus number and paid for with the Quest card.

Priority boarding

Global Entry/TSA Pre reimursement up to $100 once every 4 years

No FTF

Premier upgrades (my own prior experience as a 1K traveler makes me think this `benefit` is probably essentially worthless)

25% back on in-flight food/beverages/WIFI on UA metal when bougtht with the card

Trip cancellation/interruption insurance and daily reimbursement are added

Primary CDW/LDW coverage, purchase protection, and roadside assitance coverage are retained

The Companion travel certifiicate benefit is beng terminated.

The $250 AF goes into effect after August 1.

What exactly are 2 x 5000 mile flight award credits each year on your card anniversary and how do you quantify how valuable is this?

edit: looked it up. I think it should be worded, up to 2 x 5000 miles flight award credits since you need to take two flights to get 10,000 miles (5,000 per flight).

Up to 10,000 miles back: Automatically get 5,000 United miles back into your account after taking a United award flight — up to two times per anniversary year. Essentially, if you take two award flights per year, you’ll get 10,000 MileagePlus miles back.

If you redeem 25,000 miles on a United flight during the cardmember year, then you'd get 5,000 of those miles back into your United Miles account. In round numbers it is at least $50 per 5,000 miles set. If you did two trips, redeeming more than 5,000 on each, works out to at least $100 of value back in your Mileage Plus account, available for future redemptions on future flights.

Good share. I feel like Chase has been battling with this United identity crisis for so long now. So many flavors and such a high velocity of "new" cards

Just like any of their current cards, it is doubtful the 5/24 restriction would be relaxed at all.

I am at 3/24 since my AMEX Platinum was from March 2019. If a Dell Financial account in included in 5/24 then I'd be at 4/24.

We just completed a Mortgage and new home purchase so that's no longer a concern. Home equity line is likely as we make some improvements though that is going to be apped / opened in the next short time.

The 100,000 launch bonus is available until June 2. Spend is a bit rich, but I like the outlines of this card, so it's on my radar to get it. Never had a United card.

It is available for sign up as of now. The United Quest doesn't list any club passes. I would much rather get the United Explorer card. The explorer has a $95 AF compared to the Quest $250 and the Quest doesn't even have passes. Only difference is on United purchases. (The SUB for the Quest is also pretty high for the additional 20k miles)

I believe I naively did think so. Perhaps because I never purchase insurance from the rental car company and have always used my own auto insurance. But with primary insurance coverage being touted by some card issuers I mistakenly assumed they were talking about comprehensive coverage. Thanks for clarifying!
