5 Pre-Approvals from Chase!

What a surprise! I have 5 green star pre-approvals from Chase. I think it is more surprising when it's 1) unexpected and 2) not sought after.

Earlier this month I had one green star pre-approval for the CSP. I thought that was a nice surprise as I believe this may have been my first pre-approval from Chase, although I can't be 100% certain. I am uncertain because I established credit as soon as I became an adult, and I have gone long stretches without seeking or even thinking about seeking new credit. So I am not sure I have ever paid attention to Chase's pre-approvals, but I can say I havent had these any time recently or at least last 3 years.

I wonder what about my profile has changed that Chase decided they like? I have worked on increasing my score btw this past fall and now. (No derogatory history). Anyhow, here is a list below:

-CSP (first and only pre-approval for the last three weeks)

-CSR

-Freedom Unlimited

-Southwest Plus

-United Explorer

I have a Chase Freedom, and this was my very first CC ever. Quick question, since they thought it was appropriate to give 5 pre-approvals I wonder what would happen if I applied for all 5?

You'd probably end up wasting a HP or two. Chase is not one you want to apply for five cards at once. Congratulations on your pre-approvals!

I do believe Chase has a limit of 2 apps in a 30 day period. It would never be advisable to app for 5 from the same bank at the same time, they need to be spaced out months at a time. Chase is also one who would likely shut down all your cards if you were to attempt the 5 at one time.

If you applied for 5 cards all at once or even spaced out on the same day the 1st one would be evaluated on its merits and you should expect that a) the preapprovals for the other 4 may vanish after the 1st application is submitted, and b) every one of the other 4 applications would be denied.

Occasionally a 2nd card will slip through the cracks and be approved but Chase does circle back to check on approvals and would almost certainly close that 2nd card unilaterally 3-4 weeks out.

Additionally, you also cannot be approved for a Sapphire product if you have another Sapphire product so applying for CSR after getting a CSP would result in an automatic decline. CSP is also completely pointless if you have a CSR. (Ignore the one in my signature, that's an AU card and only there for FF account transfers 😂.)

Agree with everyone else. Choose one and one only for now. Congrats on those offers!

Thanks for the love and advice everyone! I have no plans on adding any of these, at least not now. I have specific goals that I have been adhering to, and I guess they are paying off. For example I got my first CLI ever from Amex. Again I hadn't asked in God knows when, but definitely was denied in the past.

Congrats on everything! It's nice to finally see the results of all your hard work.

I just requested a CLI on my BCP and was approved too! The first time I only got a $1,000 increase lol and have been denied every since until today.

@Queen_EthereaCongratulations! Same to you! I remember so clearly reading about the 3x CLI and always getting straight denied lol (It always seemed easier to be approved for a new card). I guess you and I both are turning a corner.

I fail to see the fishy aspect of what the OP received as pre-approved offers online let alone the paranoia.

This isn't all too uncommon for profiles that are on Chase's radar. I received similar offers a long while ago (some were different cards than what the OP shared), the hardest part was deciding which one(s) to pick based on SUB opportunities and my needs at the time.

A variety of the targeted online pre-approved offers (black stars/green check marks) already have the individual's information pre-filled (with some data masked), there's just a few fields to fill out/confirm and it's processed immediately.

I think we can put those tinfoil hats away on this one 😉

You said you've been with Amex for 40 years, and you're pretty much pre-approved for all their cards.

If you by fishy you mean "tempting" a person to apply for all 5 at once, then yes I'd agree it being a "tease" move on their part. Especially on the uninitiated of Chase's rules.

Then again I don't know of too many people who would even think about applying for that many credit cards all at once, though I'm sure some have thought about it for a minute.

I'm a little confused by your post, but yes- it's when I sign into my Chase account. It has the green star "just for you" pre-approvals with set APR's. I think it's normal, as I previously mentioned I have a somewhat long history with Chase as they were my first CC ever. My score has steadily risen in the last 6 months so I am sure I crossed a score threshold which probably triggered the pre-approvals.

Thanks for any concern, I always try to be cautious. Which is why I am apart of these forums so that I can stay informed!

@FinStar @Remedios I actually lol'd reading both of your posts. When I first read the be careful with your information bit I had a "Wait What?!!" moment as I thought I somehow gave out PII or a screenshot with my info or something. The things our brains can run to in a flash.

I'm glad you got those offers, I haven't seen one in a while.

If any of them would work for you, take it while they are still there, since they have a tendency to come and go.

Granted, if you do not need a card, you can always apply later, but those pre-approvals are so solid as long as there has been no recent CR changes (for worse), it would be a dang shame to let them go to waste

If I saw one, I'd threw myself at the device with " I whole bodily accept".

Yea but Chase apparently never liked me enough to pre-approve me I am sure they will rotate around for you again. I have a CLI request coming up with PenFed, so depending on how miserable or happy that experience will be will determine my Chase boldness.

EDIT: Is your signature recent?? Just because of that I'm going to watch it right now. I love MK so much, I don't care how bad!

I don't know, I mean what exctly were people expecting? Had to know going in it wasn't going to be Shakespeare. Having not seen it yet I can't really say one way or the other, but I do have tempered expecations just based on all previous Video Game to Movie attempts. Even though the original is so bad that it's good, I would expect that this new verison is at least in some way better. It is saddening to hear that it seemd to have missed its mark, or to properly entertain in the amnner in which it should have.
