Is this true...the part in parentheses?

In terms of medical evacuation coverage, the Amex Platinum is the top dog. If you’re on a trip of fewer than 90 days and are traveling at least 100 miles from home, this card has your back if you need medical evacuation (you don’t even have to use the card to pay for the trip).

How much is a typical medical evacuation coverage? Did anyone use it? When and how do you expect to use it?

Booked a cruise with a card w/o evac. Considering AmEx Platinum. Good evac policy is $300/year.

Have no idea.

Not me.

If you have a medical issue that can't be handled by the on board sick bay, you'll be taken to the nearest port or removed by helicopter.

Yes, you get coverage just by having the Platinum card and being 100 miles from home.

One big caveat is that all of the medical transportation has to be arranged through the Amex Premium Global Assist Hotline. There is no reimbursement of any costs; Amex's contracted medical service will arrange transport for you and Amex will pick up the bill, but any medical service not arranged through Amex will still be your responsiblity to pay.

Thanks. Doesn't seem like any other travel card does this. I have a lot of trips booked with other cards. Seemed too good to be true, but thepointsguy hasn't steered me wrong yet.

So if you happen to be unconscious when needing said medical attention then you're out of luck?

It's nice that these credit card companies offer some protection but for my own piece of mind, I'd much rather purchase such coverage from the likes of Allianz or someone similar as I'd hate to be fighting with a card company over the little details of what is and isn't covered....especially if I'm needing to be evacuated.
