I've had a $1K limit with Amex for three years, and I can't get a CLI. 🤷 A lower starting Amex card can be very hard to grow for some people.

OP, I'd hold out for better offers, imo.

Thanks for your insight, thats a long time to wait an grow. What were your starting DP's? Have you applied for a second amex card?

This was my second Amex card, the first one was a Gold card, which I have since cancelled (too much trouble with spending limit issues). Experian had to be around 700s, I think, when I got my Everyday card - it was a SP. It's been a while now and I couldn't find an approval thread for my Everyday card. I'm pretty sure Amex doesn't like my DTI due to multiple car notes, a personal loan and various balances. I threw Netflix on there and that's all I use it for, unless I see a deal pop-up in the offers.

That is not good. A long time ago I had Amex. Back in my corporate america days. I had three cars on my credit report and four houses. I do not know what my dti was, but they started me out with a 2k limit. In six months I was up to 8k. I got a second card after that, they gave me 10 k on the second card. six months after that I got a starwood I think its called. They gave me 25k. But that was back when I did not even understand credit. I still do not know a lot, but I am learning now. I wish I knew then what I know now, I might be a 1 million dollar cards holder. I would have love to get their black card. I no longer have those goals, pretty simple life now. When you are in corporate america I think people think like scarface and the world can be theirs lol.

In the last two weeks Iapi have received five mailers from Capital One products.

Two walmart master card prequalified offers

Three Capital One regular master card prequalified offers.

The walmart offers say that I will not be approve for less than $300.

The regualar capital one master card offers say increase your limit after six monthly payments. All cards offer 26.99 percent apr. I was once interested in the capital one offers, but now I do not think they are a good fit for me so I will pass on them.

I am curious of what others think of these offers, and how others and use them as a stepping stone.

Do you currently have all secured cards (as per your sig)? If you only have the 3 secured cards and no unsecured, I would recommend going for a Capital One Platinum. It can be upgraded to a Quicksilver in the future, but just keep in mind, that card will be bucketed for life. As for using that as a stepping stone, I definitely would if this would be your first unsecured card. Good thing is it doesn't have an AF.

Not a pre approval but show which cards I meet their criteria. Disco, only approves me for their secure card. July will make my 1 year anniversary for all the secure cards. I wanted to start removing them for a non secure card. I plan to replace one a every two months here moving forward. I will probably keep the open sky forever.

I would hold off on applying for Amex. If they were to approve you, it may be with a $1k limit. I've heard that limits that low are difficult to get higher. Capital One Platinum would be my next move if I were in your shoes.

Thanks for your help. I have seen some use capital one as a stepping stone. I have three secured cards that do not graduate at all. I got them without a hard credit pull so that was a benefit to show prime lenders that I am responsible. I have had those cards for 11 months now. Next month they will all be a year. Never late, never carry a balance over 20 percent, while keeping total utilization under 10 percent always. I have used each card every month to keep activity alive. I have had my unsecure nfcu card for four months now never late never carry a balance other than letting a couple of bucks report then pay off after statement cuts. So I am on the right track, but my profile I do not know how many lendors like my profile. I dont try many prequal sites.

Amex showed some love

Capital One showed some love

Dell showed some love

Discover no love LOL

I get mailers from these companies:

Capital One: One steroids

Merrick Bank

First Savings Bank

Credit One

First Premeir

National Bank

The only one off that list that I contacted was Capital One. I do not want any more subprime banks.

I have decent income almost six figures. I have very little debt. I have taken care of 13 of the 15 baddies I started with a year ago. I just have two left. Those two are sticklers LOL. I have seen others get a second nfcu with some baddies. That might be a better option for me to try since I have a decent history with them. I have their SSL an a unsecure cash reward card. I also have a decent savings and checking account with them.
