Card with no EMV Chip still?

Just got my local CUs Visa Platinum credit card in the mail. To my surprise it does not have a chip! Swipe only!

I thought it was pretty much standard across the board but apparently not. Anyone else out there still with swipe only? I personally prefer the swipe only, something more satisfying about swiping rather than "insert chip" so I am excited to take this out for a spin.

I have a plethora of CUs, regional and national banks that do not have EMV chips on their debit/credit cards, especially on recently re-issued cards. As long as the card works, I'm good 👍

I just checked my cards. Several new cards issued to me just this year do not have the EMV chip as well. I assume that it is not required or all banks would have them by now.

Man, and here I thought Alliant was behind the times because their Visa Signature doesn't have contactless payment. Mag stripe only in 2021 is pretty wild.

There are still a lot of issuers who at some point will fade the old cards out as they expire. I still have a handful of credit and store cards that don't have chips and like @FinStar said, as long as it works, I'm okay with it.

Interesting! All my cards have a chip and most are contactless except for my lone store card, Buckle.

I'm curious... What issuers are still putting out simple mag strip cards nowadays?

There's still some in circulation I'm sure. Comenity comes to mind as an example. My recently issued DSW Visa Signature is not EMV chipped or contactless -- still with the good ole magnetic stripe 🤷‍♂️

Even my Walmart store card with a 300 dollar limit has a chip.

And visa and the rest of the payment processers forced the banks to add the chip because before, visa was liable for charge backs/fraud. Now any bank that doesn't have a chip is liable for charge backs instead of visa, so this is really surprising. Must be a tiny credit union.
