Chase AARP Card sold to Barclays (thoughts??)

The AARP visa from Chase is moving to Barclays, an issuer I've never done business with due to their lackluster rewards, lack of soft pull CLIs, tendency towards AA, tough underwriting, etc.

From DOC:

"Barclays has entered into a new multi year deal with AARP to provide a range of co-branded cards. New Barclays AARP cards will launch in Spring of 2021. In addition Barclays has reached a new with JPMorgan Chase & Co to buy the existing AARP portfolio. Existing cardholders will be converted to the new Barclays AARP cards in Spring 2021 when they launch. Barclays has stated that a ‘suite’ of new AARP cards will be offered, but haven’t provided any additional details."

The way I see it, there are three possible ways to manage this transition:

1- max out the limit through a hard pull CLI w/Chase, to start a solid relationship with a new lender.

2- Trasfer the max amount of the limit to another Chase product, and see if it's worth chasing a CLI at Barclays.

3- Closing the TL (possibly the worst option).

What do you folks think of this change/Barclays? Any thoughts on how best to manage the transition to a new issuing bank?

Ive never had Sir Barclays but im personally not a fan. Everything depends on what you want out of that card. I know when Cap One took over Wally from Sync, imo they made it worse so my opinion of Cap One definetly was affected. If you have a big limit you could transfer to other card with Chase and then see what happens after transfer. Or keep it same and see how Barclays are with cli. Hard to really advise since only you can say what value you get from it. Good luck though

I'm that rare cat (meow meow) who's had nothing but positive experiences with Barclays.

Several SP CLIs, APR reductions, and $0 fee BT offers.

Going on 8 years now and looking forward to another 8.

Barclays is ok! Noting special of a bank... Had a Visa card with them for past few years and having someone else use it regularly, no auto CLI. Also the language for CLI is HP. Other than that, they are good as far as fraud protection and other things.

Barclay is a special type of horrible lender like a couple of others we discuss here constantly.

I will probably just close it either right before or right after it is transferred.

Anyone have any luck getting the AARP PC'd to another Chase product lately? I would rather not open a new tradeline with Chase.

I have had this AARP card for years stuck at the original $4500.

Pretty much in the same boat after several products in almost two decades (some, sadly, discontinued...Travelocity, SallieMae, BOH Rewards, etc.). But, like anything else FI related, not every institution will be the right fit for everyone, including Barclays.

Unfortunately, Chase will not PC any affinity product, unless it's in the same or shared product family. If you have other Chase CCs, you can reallocate CLs.

I never had any problems with Barclays but I never asked them for anything anyway.

Doge knows I swiped my Sallie all over the place until they took it away from me. They finally closed out the account this year whatever it wound up as I hadn't used it for really anything since Sallie.

I have two mastercards with Barclays, a cash rewards and the Luxury Card. Annual fee is very high but it is my largest credit line by 4 times the next closest one.

I would never ask for a CLI as they did give me a line that is unamaginal. As far as customer service they are probably one of the worst. For the few times I contacted them over the years they seem to be very combative and have no interest in helping the customer.

I have the Chase AARP and I have an Uber Visa that's SDed. My plan is to reallocate $5K of my CL from my AARP to my Amazon Visa (I already moved $5K to my Freedom Flex). So then I'll have an $800 card going over to Barclay. Once Barclay has the card, my plan is to move my $37K CL off my Uber Visa to the Barclay AARP card and then close Uber Visa.

Had two Sallie's, liked the rewards, web page and even received a couple of CL increases.

Had a fraudulent charge one day and excellent customer service.

Wouldn't hesitate at getting a Barclay card for a second, they just don't have anything I need.

The Sallie's were closed when they nerfed.

I don't really like the switch to Barclays I was really enjoying this card 3% on everything I used on a daily basis so I payed the whole remaining statement balance and called chase I reallocate my CL to my Freedom Flex and unlimited half and half and closed the account P.s if you want to do that before paying the whole balance due Chase will keep $ 1500 as minimum and you will lose it that $$$$ just and FYI

Well, just when I thought my CHASE AARP CREDIT CARD will remain with "CHASE" I WAS DEFINITELY WRONG! Got a letter in the mail today Confirming my account has been transferred to Barclays and will be replaced with the AARP ESSENTIAL REWARDS WORLD MASTERCARD ON September 20, 2021 So much for believing customer service at "Chase" Geez...🙄

Uh oh.

I have no problem with the terms on the Barclays card. I just have a problem with Barclays.

Also it seems inescapable that it's going to report as a new account. Which I need like a hole in the head. I was really enjoying my stay on the no-new-account scorecard, with the point cushion it afforded me.
