AMEX BLACK LIST REMOVED?

So, years ago i defaulted on two AMEX cards went through bankruptucy. couple days ago my wife got approved for an amex and she put me has an authroized user and i got approved! (my SSN and DOB were included in that) does this mean i am off their blacklist?

Oh...please don't tease!

I applied in April after defaulting $8k in 2012, prequal looked great, then denial but no HP.

Snail mail stated past account history or something similar.

You're one of the lucky ones, it seems to be hit and miss with those who've defaulted due to BK, etc... but how I wish it were true for me

Can you give us an approximate amount you burned them for? I ask because it seems the amount is key to how long AMEX keeps individuals on the so-called Blacklist.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that they would shoot you down as an AU. The account is under your wife's name, so technically are not on the hook if you default. I was an AU on my wife's account before I opened my own account with AMEX. I had to wait 5 years before applying, granted I didn't burn them in my BK7. But I did try to apply with them prior to the 5 year mark, after being and AU for a couple of years and they did deny me.

Unfortunately I don't think getting an AU card means you're off the blacklist. I'm pretty sure that's for getting your own accounts only.

This is not correct. In 2014 I burned them for 3000 and as of today my husband has two cards with them and on both he tried to put me on as au and denied. They cited my old accounts. Like the other poster , I was pre qualified to. Applied, denied, no hp.

I would give it 4-6 weeks before taking a victory lap. Occasionally someone does make it through an initial screening but gets flagged with the plug pulled a few weeks later. How many years ago and for how much did you burn them?

Insofar as being off the blocklist the best way AFAIK to confirm that is to apply for a card yourself. An immediate denial without a hard pull indicates you are still on the blocklist.

I would say yes. I burned them in 2014 for 3000 and they won't let me back in. My husband has 2 Amex card and each time he tried to add me as au they said no because of old account. My scores are well above 700 now and I have only one baddie from 5 years ago from medical, 114. Still no. I do however get pre-qualified for most of their cards now. I apply , instant haha, no hp.

In my very extensive DP collection as far as Amex BL is concerned, the threshold is $5K to be admitted back after 10 years. That's without paying them back a penny. And that's the shortest time. Anything over that and it could be 10-1000 years!

In your case, if you filed chapter 13 repayment plan instead of 7, then you would be in a much different and shorter BL as that's sort of "obligation settled", somewhat- to them.

Your only sure way of knowing if you're off the BL is if you're able to successfully activate your card when you receive it or actually app yourself.

I still have an amex AU card that I got thru my DW early this year but aren't able to successfully activate.

I agree that the only real way to know is to apply and find out.

The data points posted are anecdotal and I don't believe there's a single factor that determines if someone is removed from the blacklist with an old unpaid / BK account; likely other factors play into it that we have no visiblity to such as income, etc..

I burned Amex back in 08 for $5500 BK Discharged in 2011. Over the years i've always been denined access to be an AU on my wifes Amex cards then one day it let become an AU on her AMEX everday sometime in 2019. few weeks later i cold apped for the Cash Magnet and was approved.. currently that card sits with a 29500 credit limit, i also have the Gold card and Amex business with 20k limit.

My personal experience is that they absolutely will blacklist you as an AU if you burn them. It may not be consistent, but they've certainly done it to me.
