Is Apple GS Card considered as Prime Card and CLIs

Is Apple GS Card considered as Prime Card. I know it is issued by Goldman a respectable banker. Is it in the same category as Chase, Amex and Citi. Can we call it a prime card from a prime lender?

How is Apple GS Card with CLIs. I am in the process of rebuilding my credit and waiting for some baddies to drop off. Apple GS Card is some thing I want to get it at some point of time. Just for the sake I have submittied the Apple GS Card on my phone. To my surprise it came as approval CL$500 / Rate 21.99. I declined the application and did not accept it. I am not sure if I should accept it and let it start building activity or wait and hope I would get the CLI in the future or wait for few more months and apply for it again. My scores are definitely on the raise.

Update: I used Apple Shopping Cart Trick and applied on Apple Website and got approved for $1500. Decided to take it. Hoping for CLIs in the future.

I thought it was understood to be a prime card already?

It doesn't charge high fees for a low CL, you can get very high credit limits, it earns decent rewards, there's no FTF, the card itself is titanium, and you can finance prime Apple kit at zero APR.

Thanks @NRB525 For months it has been a dream card for me to get. I am an Apple enthusiast and Apple Independent Developer. I am planning on buying lot of Apple products and pay it off with in 3 months and keep recycle the limit and see where it takes. Hope it will grow as needed to support my Apple purchase needs.

I would consider it a prime card for sure, they also seem to take on customers with hickups on their credit report. I think it is a great card. I do not do sub prime cards and I would not consider this a sub prime card or bank at all.

I asked the same question on here about a CLI on this card. I was advised to wait until it is at least 91 days old.

Thanks @Anonymous. I am planning on asking them for a CLI on 12/1/2021 and 8/1/2022 and see what they say. In the mean time I am planning buying heavily from Apple store and pay it off each month before the statement cuts. I know Apple gives 0% APR for 12 months. This a card I want to keep for long term into future. I would rather keep the balances low and build a credit history with them.

I love this card. Easy to use and easy to pay. What I do not like is the fact there is no account number on the card, no expiration date and no CCV number. I hope this is not trend setting as I find it very annoying. Just watch your utilization as I stated on another post of yours and you should be ok

Hi @Anonymous the information might not be on the card. But when I logged into Apple Card website I could find the card number, exp date and cvv number. It is there on the Apple Card Website. You might want to check out that website. It also shows details on installment plans by each product. Credit Limit and available balance. As a matter of fact I needed that informtion to setup payee in my BOA BillPay.

yes, I found that too on my phone. But I am used to grabbing a card and using it over the phone or a website. For now I am just using the card on in store purchases. I guess it will just take time for me to get used to it but since I have so many cards from so many lenders. For me it is not worth the trouble to get that info off the wallet. I think they shot themselves in the foot on that one.

@Red1Blue, the term "Prime" or "Subprime" technically refers to consumer profiles, not lenders or cards. (Some lenders do specialize more in one end of the market. However, many lenders issue cards directed towards both ends of the market. Some cards directed at the subprime market segment have more "subprime" features than others, with more harsh terms and fees. Likewise, "Prime" cards can have varying strictness of underwriting for approval.) Goldman Sachs and Apple are definitely a Prime bank/card; Apple card has none of the typical hallmarks of a "subprime card." See THIS link for more discussion of prime-subprime.

There are tons of data points about Apple Card CLIs on My Fico. They soft pull, no more than 1x every 91 days. It can be requested by text message through mobile wallet interface. Success and the amount of increase is highly contingent on your level of spend as a proportion of current CL. See THIS lengthy thread for lots of data points.

@Anonymous, I agree it's different but easy enough to open mobile wallet and navigate to it, as opposed to grabbing your wallet and searching for the card. It might even be quicker. From start screen:

Apple Wallet > Apple Card > Three Dots (upper right) > Card Information

Four Taps and you've got it all at your fingertips. Us old guys just have to get used to technology. Lol. 😜 The nice thing is that it GREATLY enhances card security from someone copying those numbers. And, enables you to always have that card info handy. Even if you don't carry all your cards. 😃

To not start yet another thread, I'll ask my question here. Left the garden after quite a while and app'd for this a few days ago. I received the lowest APR (which is great) but also got a measley toy limit of 1.5K. My average CL across all my cards is probably around 15K (lowest limits at $10K). My utilization was ~1% at time of app. Scores above 810.

Does the CL grow on its own with use?

Can I ask for a soft CLI? (if so when is best to do so)

How often can I request a CLI?

@SecretAzure, there are lots of data points in the thread I linked above and in others. Yes, Goldman Sachs had a reputation for awarding low SLs relative to profile for most of us. In a nutshell ...

Does the CL grow on its own with use?

Yes, and normally only with moderate to heavy use. While there have been some auto-CLIs, the SP approval process makes it easy to request more without waiting for auto-CLI. Heavier use of existing CL has led to larger increases. If you want it to grow really fast, you may need to be willing to accept lower 1% rewards on the physical card or for web payments. The higher 2-3% rewards are only where Apple Pay is accepted.

Can I ask for a soft CLI? (if so when is best to do so) How often can I request a CLI?

Yes. 1x every 91 days.

Excellent. I would not be too concerned what other people perceive if this is a "Prime" card or not.

I was granted the card when it was introduced just over two years ago. I personally enjoy it and absolutely love when mobile/websites allow Apple Pay. Upon checkout, I press my thumb (yes so 2017....) to validate. Shipping address is integrated and bam, an easy 2% back and done- phenomenal.

Agreed! I don't feel that having the Apple Card leaves a negative connotation with other banks when they're reviewing my profile. They are looking at other factors more important to them. It's a nice card, SP CLI's regularly, easy to use and easy to spend rewards.

I've always looked at it as a prime card. Their CLIs are moderately generous, though I wouldn't say mind-blowing compared to some. My card started with $6,000 when it first became available and saw a couple of $1,000 increases when I inquired (soft pulls) to a total of $8,000 CLI. At some point in the recent past, they bumped it for me, without asking, to $12,000. That data point would also suggest they do CLI evals on their own, too, especially if the card gets regular usage.
