Capital One Venture and Savor One card... are they worth getting ?

So I've been on the fence about getting these two cards and their ecosystem to use for travel rewards. Still not sure if they are both worth adding to my wallet. I already have all the good Chase CC for travel rewards... but was now debating to add these two to complement my travel rewards portfolio... Any info. / opinions are appreciated. What are the best benefits of having both and how soon do your reward points post to your account to use after you earn them ?

I have the non "One" versions of both .. i.e. Savor and Venture.

I like Capital One's reward system a lot better than Chase. The Venture gives me 2 miles per $ spent, redeem to pay for travel related purchases or transfer to a bunch of international partners (i.e. Emirates , BA , etc). You also get a global entry credit every 4 years. The downside is that there's a AF. The non-AF version give you 1.25 miles per $ spent.

The Savor is the best in my opinion for unlimited cash rewards on dinning and entertainment. You get 4% back on these types of categories, 3% on groceries. Again, there's an AF (the non AF earns 1% less on everything).

You get the cash about 3 days after the purchase and you can redeem instantly.

Thanks for your info. I really like the fact that Capital one miles / points post within three days so you can use them ASAP. I hate waiting until your next billing statement for your rewards / miles to post. That's always been my biggest gripe with Chase.

I'm already pre-approved for the Savor One... but was debating on which card to get first... the Venture or the Savor One. I'm fine with the AF for the Venture.. but don't want to also pay the AF for the Savor. Which would you recommend getting first ?

Depends on what you want to do. There's currently a 60,000 miles bonus on the Venture, and a $300 cash back bonus on the Savor (both after spending $3000 in 3 months) . If you redeem miles to cover a travel purchase that's $600 value, so it seems like it's a good option if you have a good cash back already that covers dinning and entertinament.

The Venture card seems like it's worth it the first year just for the signup bonus, but after that it's just a 2% card with a $95 annual fee. Doesn't seem like a keeper card to me. Yeah they have airline transfer partners but the rates are not great.

Savor One is on my goal list. I got a Savor a couple years ago with the intention of downgrading it to a Savor One after a year, but they wouldn't let me. So I had no choice but to cancel it. I'll app for the Savor One next time. I mainly want it for no FTF cash back on dining and entertainment while I'm traveling abroad... assuming I ever get to do that again.

Okay... couple of other questions. Is there a minimum redemption amount you need to have earned before you can redeem your rewards. Some cards won't let you redeem the points until you have at least $25 worth of points. Was wondering if the Savor One or Venture require that as well. I'm not a fan of them.. but would tolerate it I suppose.

Also, if you redeem for cash with the Savor One is the value of the points redeemed 1 cent per point ? Or less than that amount ?

Nope. You can redeem 1 penny if you wanted

The Savor gives you straight cash back, that's what I like about it. No points or transfer rates and all that.

Just beware CapOne will triple pull per app.

Many have complained their CapOne card lacks growth.

One other things to be aware of is that, from what I undestand, you can transfer the "points" from the Savor over to the Venture and have more miles that way. I have read about and watched videos about this capability but I don't have either card at this time so cannot personally verify. That would make the Savor earn effectively 4X per dollar for dining and entertainment which is an impressive earning rate.

Yes.. I agree with you. The only thing I don't like about the Savor vs. Savor One is the annual fee. I'll probably get the Venture card eventually as well... but I'm not keen on paying AF's on both cards.

Have you heard if the points from the Savor One will transfer to the Venture card as well...??

I believe the Savor One works the same way but cannot verify for myself. Someone else will have to chime in.

Unfortunately, transferring rewards between a cash card and a miles card is not possible. When I try it, under "eligible account" it only shows cards of the same rewards category.

Interesting... I heard people were able to do this as far back as 2018. I'm guessing Capital One put the kabosh on that... so it's no longer an option. Bummer... that would have been a nice perk of having one of the Savor cards and the Venture. I'll still probably get both cards at some point though.

@Live4Fishing Sorry I take it back. You can transfer cash to miles at 100 miles per $. I think I tried the other way around and it was not working for me.

I've had both the Venture and Savor at some point during the past year.

I got the Savor right before the pandemic hit. Pre-COVID, I would have easily spent over 10k a year in the dining and entertainment categories. Post-COVID, I could no longer justify the fee for Savor and downgraded to Quicksilver after the one year mark. This preservered a decent credit limit and provided a cash back card with no foreign transaction fees. I would have preferred to downgrade to SavorOne, but that was not permitted.

The Venture was strictly for the 100k signup bonus. I plan to close it after the next annual fee posts. Yes I could downgrade to VentureOne or Quicksilver, but I don't really want to maintain another account which doesn't offer any additional benefits to what I already have. I'd love to combine credit limits with my Quicksilver, but that option is no longer allowed.

The rewards do post shortly after a charge posts, and I could redeem at any dollar amount. These are very user friendly reward redemption cards.

To me, the primary reason to get the Capital One SavorOne is for its 3% cash back on entertainment purchases (assuming retailers properly code as entertainment - I'm looking at you Bowie Baysox and Jammin' Java) and more broadly its 3% rewards on a broad array of categories, which include groceries, restaurants, and streaming services, all with no annual fee or foreign transaction fees. To my knowledge, the CapOne SavorOne is one of only two no annual fee cards, along with the American Express Blue Cash Everyday, that provides greater than 2% cash back on grocery purchases year-round, an attractive perk added to the card a few months ago for people who don't want to pay annual fees on credit cards.

Yes you can transfer cash rewards to Venture miles. However, they're still worth 1 cent per mile. The only advantage I could see in doing this would be to transfer cash rewards to airlines and hotel loyalty programs, but like I said above, the transfer rates are not attractive and, though it may be possible, it seems difficult to get better than 1 cent per point in velue that way.

Okay... thanks for helping me out on that and get some clarification. You make some good points about the transfer rates to the Venture. I'm definitely getting the Savor One card... but I may hold off on the Venture card for now unless the SUB jumps up to 100k again (or something close to that).
