Not long ago, I was able to combine my two Discover Card accounts.

Whenever accessing my account the closed card would still be showing on my profile. Using the app, I tried to look for a way to delete this closed account. Could not find a way to do it so I logged into the full online version to update my profile.

There was no option on the online version to remove my closed card. So chat session.

I was informed that I had to request for Discover to do it. I did.

Here is an another interesting angle - I was told that it may take them up to 12 months, yes 12 months to get the closed account removed.

So just FYI.

I have a Zombie Disco account too. I thought about getting it removed but I was worried messing with it might somehow inadvertently result in the account aging off my reports sooner than it otherwise would. I have no basis for this concern but since it's only mildly annoying I'm gonna leave it be.

I had a similar issue with CareCredit when I upgraded to the MC... the old PLCC stuck around on the dashboard for a while (year or longer).

At first it really annoyed me and seemed like an oversight, but then I realized that once it's removed I would no longer have access to the old statements and transaction history, so looking at it from that angle helped things make a bit more sense.

With Disco combinations I can see it as somewhat the same since you're not merging the account history, you're really just moving/merging the credit line from one card to another. If they were to immediately remove the old account from the dashboard I imagine there would be calls to customer service from folks who needed old statement or transaction info.

I think it's normal for all credit card companies to keep closed accounts visible for at least a year.

I've closed accounts from Discover, Chase, Capital One and BOA and all had the account I closed visible for 12-18 months.

Barclays took a couple months. To calrify, the removals of the closed accounts from the online 'dashboard view' were not at my request, it was done systematically on the back-end. Citi, 5/3 and AmEx can be unlinked. SYNCB stay on the system regardless -- only if the same User ID profile is used (i.e. upgrades or previously closed accounts).

Ya have cards from years ago on my dashboard.. I don't know when they just dont put a program fix in to remove or hide it at least hiding the account is a very simply programming solution, but for some reason they are a bit behind on that technology. Been to lazy to call them and have very old accounts that were combined removed.

Same. I had requested to close one of my Discover cards but because that still showed on my Dashboard, there was no way for me to know whether it had actually been closed. I found out that the account finally closed when reviewing my report on Credit Karma. Couldn't figure out how to remove it from Dashboard and too lazy to reach out to CS for it so I try to ignore it now.
