Do inquiries older than 1 year matter with nfcu or cap 1 ?

I was wondering if inq's over a year old hold weight with nfcu and cap 1

All things considered and profile specific, Capital One has been known to consider anything up to 24 months (including new accounts), especially on cards like Savor, SavorOne, Venture, for example. I don't think NFCU is as inquiry sensitive, but there have been denials cited with those reasons on occasion, but IIRC, those are usually within a 12-month window.

I plan on applying for an nfcu unsecured card in early 2022, either jan or feb. I have about 20 inqs total but after this month 15 of them are older than one year. i went on a spree when i started rebuilding which caused 15 inqs but only 1 is on tu which nfcu pulls. in may of this year i received 5 new cards with preapprovals which resulted in my other 5 hp's, but it was worth it because discover and cap 1 were included in those 5.

I have my eye on cash rewards and the cap one walmart card or savor. by early next year i will be 0/6 5/12 20/24.

Going forward I intend to get more conservative. from now on i plan to app once or twice a year or maybe zero times if i dont need a card. Eventually those inqs will drop off , time flies.

Before i was forced to file bk7 in 2019 my credit was excellent. i didnt miss a payment in 20 plus years and i got the lowest interest rates and approvals on everything from auto loans to unsecured loans and cc's.

A stroke and broken back ended that run. in fact i got the lowest charged fees from the bk attorney because my case was easy. i remember showing up at the bk hearing with the aid of a walker and seeing the look of pity in the eyes of the trustee.

My goal is to have at least some credit in case a major appliance goes bad or a roof leak or such. i would like rewards cards just to save money in my budget.

I didnt want to mention my history but i also didnt want anyone think i just fell off the turnip truck credit wise. im no spring chicken, hair is thinning and beard getting gray.

I really enjoy this forum, i have learned a wealth of knowledge here.

I will be exactly 1 year into rebuild at the end of this month and i am approaching 700, tu9 692, and all of my other ficos except 1 are in the good range but that pesky tu8 is at 657

You're on the right track and asking good questions to position you on a good path with your rebuild. It matters not how old you are or where you are in life. So, kudos on your efforts for continuing to forge ahead and lead as an example for others who may be in similar situations.

I got 4 cards in June:Target, Discover, Victoria and the SavorOne I got at the end of June. Less than a month later I got the Walmart MasterCard in July. This is with a LOT of inquiries so next year you will definitely be fine 🤣.

I am jealous, i would love to have that walmart card but right now nothing shows up for me at the cap 1 prequal page, i'm very happy with cap 1 right now because last week they gave me a pc to the QS no af and a cli of 1500 after only 6 months, 300-1800.

In jan or feb i plan to app for the nfcu cssh rewards and maybe that walmart card. right now nfcu only shows me the nrewards and i would prefer unsecured. i have a checking/savings with nfcu that i have been using since may.

Hopefully NFCU works out for you. You might want to take a look at Penfed cards, they don't seem terribly bothered by BKs lately.

Depending on where you live BECU could be an option.

I love them, but sometimes joining our of the state can be a lengthy process for some

"Bad quality"

That's not the case for everyone, but it can happen, though they are very rebuilder/BK friendly, and it might be worth the effort.

I also joined penfed in may with a savings but heres the negative with penfed, there checking requires a minimum of 500, as i understand their rewards can only go to one of their checking accounts. nfcu only has 1 branch in nj on an ammunition base and you have to be active military to get in, i only have veteran status. so i am hesitant to switch one of my dd's to nfcu. i do however use the nfcu products, checks, debit card, i also make regular transfers to them. i also like the fact that if i fail getting an unsecured card with nfcu they will give me the nrewards. right now i qualify for the nrewards.

PS- I read that being 2 years post bk holds some weight with nfcu. i will be 2 years post bk after december.
