Hi Community!

I recently did the preapproval on American Express website and it indicated preapproval for the following Amex suite: Blue Cash Preferred, Every Day, Green, Delta and Marriott cards.

I was initially interested in their Magnet Card and Gold card however the Blue Cash Preferred initial 6x categories, 60k miles 3k spend and with $300 welcome caught my eye and their application button. Initial CL is disappointing 2k; I recently received my card and activated it just this week.

However now my pre selection offers under my account is their Platinum card, Marriott Bonvoy but my interest is in their Gold card which is not one of their offerings under my account. As you can see the AF varies from $695/$450/$250.

Just a side note I haven't begun to travel again and once I resume will probably only average 2-3 trips a year with (2) domestic and (1) international which I feel the Platinum would be an over kill. As far as the Marriott, I enjoy their hotel in addition to the Hyatt and I am not necessary a brand lioness and therefore unsure if they would be a good fit since my spend would go strictly towards the Marriott brands hotel which I heard recently are not honoring upgrades and have removal of some confirm reservations.

Therefore, my concerns are twofold. My spend requirements I would need to split between the Blue Cash Preferred and Gold card in mostly the same 3-6 months timeframe; however with the holidays approaching it maybe doable.

What is a reasonable timeframe to apply for another card within the same card brand when one has only just been approved and activated one's card. I've heard horror stories of cards being shutdown if you apply for too much credit two soon. As a side note I recently received my CSP card approximately 2 months ago; therefore I would effectively open 2-3 lines of credit with a 2 month timeframe. Lastly, I paid a personal loan off so my score may drop a point or two with all the activity on my reports.

Help, I'm torn--should I bite the bullet or just wait before getting my next.

Thxs for all the insight or just letting me vent

Inventory: Blue Cash Preferred, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Apple, QuickSilver, Discover, Mercury, Merrick

If you got an offer for the Platinum, you should be able to get the Gold. Underwriting is the same or extremely similar for those cards.

If you're preapproved for one of the charge cards, you're probably going to be approved for any one of them. So I wouldn't concern myself about the preapprovals. I would just pick the card you will get the most value out of.

Amex doesn't mind if you apply for a charge card right after a revolver, so timing isn't a problem either.

Some unsolicited advice: it can be hard to get value out of the Amex charge cards when you don't travel much.

The Amex prequalifier is a weird tool. I tried it recently and I was prequalified for every card they offered with the exception of the Hilton cards and the Delta cards. I was only interested in the Hilton Surpass card for the sub and the cheap ($95) lounge access. I didn't accept any offers and I'm glad I didn't as I plan to product change to Venture X. I would think that all the Amex charge cards should be easy to get as you need to PIF and Amex is know to adjust the NPSL limit down to as low as $500 if they don't like you. One has to put a lot of purchases on the Gold Amex just to cover the $250 fee. IMHO there are many better options.

Thanks for your response; however may I ask what do you mean when you refer to the PIF?

The spend I feel can be easily met with the 4x-5x on dining, groceries and the upcoming holidays coupled with my fantasy travel plans.

Also, since I went with the Blue Cash Preferred the AF is waived the first, 6x across multiple boards, and 0% APR for 12-15 months; since I can only qualify for one offer I feel I chose the best one and can use the extra spend from the Blue Cash Preferred to pay towards my Rose card.

Overall I'm happy with my credit journey and not really looking for a broader credit mix. I ponder over the Venture X however I wasn't personally comfortable with the 10k spend in addition to the reports of difficulties of getting approval. Plus we all know their CL are like choke holds simply hard to get past that initial CL. Lol
