Citi Custom and Synovus cash for groceries

Hay guys I was wondering if the people here have Citi custom cash and or Synovus cash rewards know if you put them in grocery categories will they get full rewards in Costco and Walmart Supercenter?

I buy groceries at Publix, Winn-Dixie, Walmart Supercenter and Costco so I'm looking for a good cash back card for those places but I might have to go with a 2-3 card strategy

Well, I am not familiar with Synovus, but the Citi Custom Cash card is a Mastercard and Costco takes only Visa. So just for that reason, you can't use it at Costco. Walmart as far as I understand depends on your local store. Some apparently code as grocery stores. Most credit cards exclude Walmart/ Target when groceries are the 5% category.

Big box stores ex Walmart do not code as grocery. Only neighborhood Walmart stores.

Given that Walmart and Costco are not valid as grocery for the CCC as noted, do you know if you will exceed the $500/month max benefit at Publix & Winn Dixie ?

No I try to split My purchases for the stores like bulk food at Costco then it's price hunting for individual items at Walmart Publix Winn-Dixie

Then it sounds like the Citi Custom Cash with 5% back would be great for you.

If you do apply, there is a $300 sign-up bonus when you spend $1000 via Credit Karma vs the standard $200 SUB w/ 750 spend directly thr Citi.

Our Walmart SuperCenter always codes as 3% groceries on our Synovus Travel Rewards card.

Fantastic thank you for sharing I am thinking of applying for rewards or cash rewards card the only difference I can see is cash rewards gives 3% on dining and regular reward card gives points that can be used by paying of CC purchases or redeem them for travel etc

The biggest difference with the Cash Rewards vs the Travel Rewards and Rewards card is that utilities is not a 3% selectable category on the Cash Rewards card. The Travel Rewards card earns 1.25X on Purchase Payback for travel charges, so if you use the points to pay off any hotel, rental car, or flight charges, it is essentially a 6.25% card on travel and 3.75% on the selectable category. It more than makes up for the $50 AF IMO.
