Not really a CC, but alot of people use paypal key w/regards to credit cards so applicable here. Sure alot of people won't be happy about this..

PayPal is discontinuing the PayPal Key virtual card feature. Starting April 20, 2022, you will no longer be able to use your PayPal Key Virtual Cards. This includes the ability to see the virtual card number, and any attempted online purchases will be declined. Please be sure to update any saved payments before then.

To continue to use your PayPal balance anywhere, including at businesses that don't accept PayPal, simply request a PayPal debit card.1 The debit card lets you use your PayPal balance anywhere Mastercard® is accepted - in-store, online, or in your favorite apps.

Sorry if this is not the correct forum to post this topic. I just received an email from Paypal stating Paypal Key will be discontinued effective April 20, 2022. Has anyone else received this email? I got so much use out of it, I'm surprised and unhappy to see it go.

I guess no PPK for CFF or Discover PayPal 2022 bonus categories 😐

Wonder if pressure came from CC companies or internal business decision form PP for whatever reason? Was never really heavily advertised either..

Maybe both

On a positive side, I'll probably PC old freedom to CFU. While I can take advantage of PayPal quarter if it's around holidays, it's not very useful during the other 9 months.

I guess when Universe offers you a solution to a problem you didn't have, accepting it is the only option.

No wonder I couldn't get a PPK re-issued after I deleted mine few months ago!
Was really useful to me as a lifetime 0% for 6 months over $99 attached to my PPC! Oh well life goes on!

I just read on Doctor of credit that Paypal is ending Paypal key on April 21 this year. It was good while it lasted. Now I will have to do something uncivilized and barbaric as actually writing a check to pay my rent. No more cash back from rent payments!

Does anyone know an alternative that works just like Paypal key?

So now I will actually have to calculate how to pay my FiOS bill! PPK attached to MaxCash was ideal.

ETA: OK, going with the very unexciting Paypal Business Debit, which may or may not pay 1% on the transaction. My FiOS bill is small enough that the autopay discount is more than the 5% on MaxCash (so it doesn't matter whether I get the 1% or not). For those with large wireless bills it might be different (although auto pay is per line), this may push more to consider the Verizon card.

..and a HUGE thank you for bringing this info, I've got a good bit of monthly bills on autopilot using PPKey.

Not surprised.

Was a great way to avoid the CC fee by being able to run as debit but someone (PayPal) had to pay the CC fee at some point and no Business likes loosing money.

I wonder if VANs (Cap1/Citi) are going to vanish as well? Citi already doesn't advertise theirs and aren't clear if any given card comes with it until you have the card. Cap1 promotes theirs.

Possibly, but I would guess paypal's issue with PPK was different. VANs are "just" an alternate number to the issuers credit card (with all the management costs that creates). PPK is passing the charge to another issuer (the target couldn't be a paypal card) and I am sure that creates either costs or a lot of discussion about who should pay what.

If you guys want to discuss debit cards, please start a thread in Personal Finance especially since the idea behind PayPal key was to avoid CC fees while not using debit cards, ability to meet PayPal quarters spend at websites where you normally couldn't use PayPal etc

Currently, there isn't a virtual credit card that would serve the same purpose, so virtual credit cards are also a topic for another thread.

You're not joking.

This makes my Freedom Flex somewhat redundant (I also have a Freedom), but it is what it is.

It sure was nice while it lasted, though.
