I have Verizon wireless for two lines and I get $20 off my bill with AutoPay. But it must be connected to your bank account. Credit cards and debit cards are not eligible. So if I want the coverage from my Amex Delta Platinum or Barclays Arrival Plus, it’s the same as paying $10 insurance for each phone. So keep that in mind for any Verizon customers looking at that benefit from your cc.

i've been wondering why the phone companies are doing this. Is it to push their in house protection plans? i have AT&T wireless, and although they do allow you to pay for your cell bill with credit card, they deduct it 9 days before the due date...and if you pay with your debit card or checking account, it's on the due date (or like the day before). it's weird.

The cost is $6-$17 depending on coverage/customer type. Verizon claim is up to “$400 or $3000 depending on device.” And deductibles range “For all non-New York customers, the deductible for a replacement claim will be $19/$129/$189/$229/$249, depending on device. For New York customers, the deductible for a replacement claim will be $19/$49/$99/$149/$229, depending on device.” Whereas AmEx and MC deductibles are a simple $50 for $800-$1000 coverage depending on card. Cracked screens need approval and have $29 deductible with Verizon whereas AmEx includes cracked screens.

Now what's interesting if you get the Verizon CC, you can only use that credit card to autopay your cell bill. The good thing about it is that you still get $10 off your bill, and you earn reward points on the card for doing so.

First you have to add VW as a payee. (Strangely, they call it "Add a new bill.") That requires entering your account number and maybe some other stuff I've fogotten about.

Sometime in the past, I configured my PayPal Bill Pay settings to try to pull from the card I wanted to use -- Cash+ in my case. I think it will always try to use your PayPal balance first, but I keep mine at zero, so effectively it's forced to pull from the card I assigned.

When that's done, you click the "Pay" button, then enter the amount you want to pay. The next screen that pops up has the message I quoted at the top, and a big blue "Agree & Continue" button at the bottom.

It's not really unusual in PayPay Bill Pay. I tried to add my credit card companies as payees. Because, ya know, having the ability to pay a CC with a CC would be nifty. Some of them are in the database, but all of those had the same "no CC" rule.

I got two new Verizon phones and lines late last year and priced it out and decided to just fork out for AppleCare and keep the autopay discount on my bill.

I looked at AT&T and they seem to have a similar policy for their autopay discount.
