My experience similar to others. I have the sapphire reserve, freedom unlimited, and Amazon prime card. Cards are between 1 and 3 years old and I have never received an auto CLI. However, my chase business ink card has gone from $12k to $28k on two auto CLI in a year.

I have put over $50,000 on the Amazon card in the last 12 months paying in full every month. Nothing.

`

I also have a Chase checking account that always has at least $30k in it. I rarely ever use that account but wondered if keeping some money in there would help. On the personal side, it seems I am going to have to bite the hard pull bullet.

Good morning,

My husband has a Chase slate. His CL is only $5600. He went from having very high utilization in 2020 and paying it down in 2021. We now keep it at less than 4% for the past few months. Recently, as we learn more about how to utilize credit from the myfico boards, we have been using the card for about $3800 per month (65%) and then paying it down (past two months it has been 4% at the time of the statement close date). We wanted it lower but we keep getting an insurance autopay for $210 (4%) right before the close date and we don't see it until it's too late. I'm going to change the date today.

He has one paid medical collection that is lingering until July 1. As soon as I can get it removed, we would like to call and ask for a CLI if the increased utilization doesn't trigger an auto CLI.

Does anyone know how long it will take for an auto CLI on a chase card?

Do you think we should call and ask? I've heard about calling the backdoor number instead of doing it automatically online - would that be better?

For reference: He has carried a balance in the past but no lates. Recently, asmentioned above, has been between 4-10%.

Goal is only $10 on the card at bill date.

Age of Chase account: 12+ years.

Scores:

EX: 738 Fico8 (today): shows paid medical collection from 2021 for less than $500. Tried to get it removed but they refused.

In my experience, Chase wants you using 60% of your CL before giving an auto CLI. There have been many DPs of people getting unexpected large CLIs despite this but it was mostly for the Chase Amazon card.

Even if you ask for a CLI, which will be a HP, you may not get an increase if you are not using enough of your current limit.

I've had a Freedom Unlimited since 2016. Started at $5k (I think) and am now at a $6.5k limit. The CLI was auto when my balance was creeping toward the limit several years ago. Since, I've had statement balances between zero and $4k and never another auto CLI. I have higher limits on other cards, so it's not worth a hard pull to boost this one. Plus, I've always heard that Chase is finicky, so I just let them do what they're gonna do.

I know last year/early this year (when I was paying attention to it closely) Chase was giving out auto CLI's like candy.... IF, you were using it heavily. I even got a couple on a personal and a business card. Like automatic. Unrequested. Heavy usage (30-50%), pay it off, rinse and repeat. Couldn't hurt to try, however my info it 5 months old as I haven't paid *close* attention to it since then.

Usually it's best to apply for another new card in order to get any decent limit in exchange for the HP. Note of course that that comes with the caveat that you'd take a new account hit, AAoA hit, and AoYA hit. Plus, if you're over 5/24, you'll most likely be auto-denied.

Thank you! I have heard Chase is finiky too - I don't want to mess with whatever they have going on (but, if they are going to give me a CLI, that would be very nice!)

Good to know we shouldn't expect too much, if they do give us a CLI!

Thank you for this! We are trying to use it heavily but we've also downsized quite a bit so we don't have a need for much credit. I just want a buffer, just in case...it will help our utilization if we end up with a few hundred on our card between bill date and statement close date

Let's hope they are still giving out CLI candy - I would gratefully accept it!

Waiting till J

EQ: 727 Fico8 (6/20): shows same paid medical collection as above.

TU: 834 Fico8 (6/20): no collection

1. There's no rule for how long it might take to get an auto CLI. Some times you never get one from Chase. It's not something to count on.

2. The only way to ask for a CLI with Chase is by phone, and it's always a hard pull.

Thank you, @SouthJamaica ! I could have sworn my husband said he had the option on his CC login to ask for a CLI - but that doesn't mean he is right. Actually, I'm pretty sure he was confused...this whole credit thing is a bit overwhelming for both of us but he hasn't been paying as much attention as I have. I trust you are correct

Also, good to know it's a hard pull! I will wait and see what Chase decides to do - I don't want to risk a HP when we are already going to have one when we apply for an additional card in the next month or so.

Very helpful, as always. Thank you!

Thanks for this detailed response! It's interesting that your businesss account gets a CLI but others don't....

I'll keep you posted in case anything happens on my end. I think we are going to save a HP for a new card since he only has one.

@HHH71 wrote:

A quick update!

I was just explaining all of this great info to my husband and we decided to check the balance on the CC this month (so we could try and hit at least 60% of his $5600). We logged in and his CL is now $10,000!?!

I am certain it was only $5600 yesterday when I made the original post. He didn't get an email, an alert, etc. I don't know why but the chasecreditgods decided to be super generous for some reason - maybe 2 months of higher utilization helped? I thought for sure we needed to do it longer, esp after hearing all the stories in this thread. Whatever the reason, I'm grateful. This is his only card and the limit almost doubled. I know, for many, $10k isn't that high. For us, this is huge! We will work on finding a good card for him next - just waiting for his last medical collection to fall off and (hopefully) see a jump in his score in June.

Thank you all for the advice. I am glad I asked and didn't request a HP prematurely!
