Are you finding more places accepting amex or less?

I've been to more and more places lately that no longer accept amex. They all have said due to inflation they could no longer afford it justify the higher swipe fees. So far it's been at smaller to medium size businesses.

Curious of others experience.

I use my Amex for all of my restaurant purchases and have only found one place that doesn't accept it.

@purebulldogs I've been a member since 1997, and I have only experienced it twice where someone does not accept American Express. But I always keep at least two different credit cards from different issuers in my wallet. You never know when you go somewhere and your card doesn't work, or they don't take American Express. For this reason I always keep a Visa and Mastercard in my wallet along with American Express. Furthermore, I make sure they are from different banks just in case there's a problem with that particular bank.

Locally (These are likely family owned franchises) Burger King, Dairy Queen and KFC (I think KFC does now, come to think of it) will not accept AMEX. (DQ will not take Discover here either) I live in a fairly large rural town (~15-20k) with about a dozen fast food locations, of those only those three refuse Amex.

That said, my gold is usually my daily driver and accepted almost everywhere I frequently shop. My Discover Miles (first year match) is my secondary and then X1 is my backup if I can't use one of those.

No, I don't eat out THAT much. But when I do, I don't like to stick with one place.

My AMEX Platinum is my daily driver. Haven't run into anywhere shopping-wise that doesn't accept it yet. The only place that doesn't accept it, yet accepts every other card is my apartment's rental company.

Since getting my first card with Amex in 2010 I have yet to come across a place that has not taken the card in this country. The UK is a whole different ball game and because of this I rarley take my Amex out of my wallet when traveling abroad

I suspect it's where I live (flyover country) but I've always had a hell of a time with Amex acceptance. To the point where I've already canceled Platinum and strongly considering getting rid of Gold at renewal. But I can't say I've noticed any change in recent months due to inflation or anything like that.

SoCal. Newly-opened places overwhelmingly take Amex. Some older places that didn't take Amex still don't. I haven't seen it actually removed as an option anywhere (other than Costco).

I lived in Texas the DFW areas. Only about half of the groceries stores I normally went to accept Amex. My most spending are supplies and equipments for business, but none of them accepts Amex or Discover. It's either Visa or Mastercard. Cash is their preffered method of payments. As a small business owner myself, I'm happy ah just to have customers walking in my place.

Same here... my Delta gold is my daily driver and haven't been anywhere that doesn't accept it... except my leasing company for my rent.

Well WinCo in OKC went full hard stop on ALL Credit Card payments because of inflation. As of today, I think we're at 9.1%

Winco here in WA is debit card only. Has been forever.

I wonder how many more places we see go debit card only if things keep staying up?

How much cheaper are the debit cards in general?

When I'm in the states I'm mostly in large cities and it seems (not quite) universally accepted there. Outside the US it's still pretty rough, but it's waaay better than it was a decade ago or so, where you'd be hard-pressed to fuse AMEX or Discover almost anywhere outside the west. In the few countrie I've been in South America every major city seems to have large chains / delivery / restaurants that accept one or both of them, same with eastern/Southern Europe. 10 years ago it was hard to use a Visa or MC here.
