I don't believe this will be a problem. There is a section I see in my TU report something along the lines of "Other names or AKA" and there are some misspelled names for me in that section (probably reported by banks .. not a mistake I made).

So I would think if you look at that section you will see both names for you.

I recently applied for and was approved for the Chase Amazon Prime credit card. My legal first name is Nathan but the name on my Amazon Prime account itself is Nate. I guess when applying for the card I didn't correct it being pre-filled in as Nate or something because when I got the physical card in the mail today, it shows Nate instead of Nathan. Obviously my SSN and everything were entered correctly and I'm surprised I didn't catch it saying only Nate instead of Nathan. It has me thinking maybe it didn't even ask me and just used the name on the Amazon Account without asking to confirm. Guess it didn't mess up my approval but I still find it strange. Anyway...

I plan on using this card exclusively on Amazon but is this something I should still try to contact Chase to correct? Will this cause some issue such as it failing to properly report on my credit report? I doubt I will ever use this card in a store where they might ask for my ID and even if they did I know Nate is a common shortened name for the name Nathan.

Tldr: New credit card doesn't show full legal first name, is this something I should try to contact Chase to fix or just let it be because it's no big deal?

Any constructive feedback is appreciated.

I doubt it will ever be an issue. When you're ordering something and it asks for "name on card" or whatever, use the name as it's on the card.

I haven't had this with cards, but I've had checks written to both "Mike" and "Michael." I just sign the back the way it's written on the front.

You won't have any problems with Chase. Expect the alias to show up as an 'also known as' under the personal info section of your credit report. If you have a problem with reporting, first get a confirmation from Chase that they are reporting correctly then file disputes as needed with the CRAs. If they don't fix the problem file a CFPB complaint. Emperically the only real problems I have with aliases come from lazy data miners and with Transunion occasionally quietly dropping one and then later re-adding it.

Our credit reports have a section that displays any other names associated with our credit. Usually it's filled with misspellings of your name from when a CSR somewhere typed your name incorrectly. In your case it will now contain your nickname. It's harmless. It's only an aesthetics issue.

as others have said its not going to be an issue -w/ my car note the dealership put my middle inital as A instead of E , all that happens is that on your credit report under other names your nickname will be listed.

When I applied for my first Chase card, a CFF, Chase automatically shortened my first name to a common nickname for my name without asking me. Both the name on card and name in my online profile used the nickname, which I never go by in person. When I called Chase about this, they detemined that my full legal first and last name was too long for the card, so I requested to reissue the card using my first initial instead and they were able to change the name in my online profile to my full legal name without issue.

As others have mentioned it will probably be fine, but if it bothers you it's not too hard to fix.

You can call or send Chase a secure message, and they'll snail-mail you a form for a "name change." It's really short, and once completed you can take a picture of it with your phone along with a picture of your ID with the 'correct' name, attach the files to a new secure message, and a few days later they'll send out a new card.

I went though this with my Freedom Flex that was missing my suffix. I admit I was annoyed at first that they couldn't just "fix" it (I already had other Chase cards with the correct name, after all) but all-in-all it wasn't a big deal.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Did the name being different make it so you couldn't manage your account from your Chase app alongside your other Chase cards? I haven't tried setting this up yet myself.

Nope, all was fine on the app and using the card... it just annoyed me that it had my father's name instead of my own.

So weirdly enough my Chase Amazon Prime Card is NOT showing up on my Chase account (I have had a Chase Freedom card for many years). I don't know if this is related to the name difference or just a coincidence. As of my writing this I think the Chase customer service number is closed for the night but hopefully I can call them tomorrow and have the account added without issue. Apparently most people say when they were approved the account was added immediately without them having to do anything. I did apply from the Amazon App and not the Chase App so maybe that caused it to not automaitcally add? Idk. Like my account shows on my Amazon for me to use for payment, just isn't showing on my chase app itself.

Best wishes in resolving the issue!!!
