What was your very first card?

Mine was a $300 capital one card. I was around 20. Was in school and worked part time. It got up to $800 credit limit. I maxed it and when the $29 or $39 annual fee hit it put me over the credit limit. I probably got an over the limit fee back then since I do remember owing more than the credit limit a few times.

bought a lot of pizza and beer on the weekends with that card. It made college life more fun. Once I paid it down, we'd get more food. We would rotate our cards 😀. I was probably pretty profitable to capital one with the interest and fees I paid.

I eventually paid it off. Capital one never cut my credit line even though I paid late every few months. It worked well for me and capital one. When you are hungry with friends and tired of doing homework and ready to watch movies etc, that available credit was like gold when those pizzas 🍕 were delivered 😎 even if it was as low as $50

I knocked the stuffing out of that card for being a poor college student with a pretty low limit

Not much reason to cut a CL or close an account when they can harvest those kinds of fees on a $300 CL.

I believe it was a WF College Cashback card with a $1.2k limit in 2013. Unfortunately it got burned when my credit tanked in 2018, otherwise I'd still have it.

@purebulldogs discover card - before it was discover it .... I burned them tho but have since gotten back in with them since repairing my credit . love how it comes full circle

Discover $1k SL and it grew to $8k then burned in ch7 in 2020.

It think it was either a Capital One or Discover back in the fall of '99 or spring of 2000. Either one, I eventually had a card from both issuers, the SL was about $500 - $800.

First discontinued card: The Bon Marche in 1992 at age 16.

First current card: Military Star in 1994 at age 18. But back then it was called DPP (Deferred Payment Plan). Changed name to Military Star years later.

Some Wachovia card, not sure which one. Closed it when I closed my checking account after no longer being stationed near their banks. I think the next one was the Capital One card I got around the time they began using that name, but I later closed it and moved the credit line to another card I opened with them in 2001 (which 15 years later got merged into another card the day I closed my 3 oldest open revolvers in a 10 minute span that way LOL).

A Barclaycard ~ 1978. Don't remember any details about SL, pretty sure no rewards. It got closed by the bank when my address (and I) moved to the US, and soon after I got my first reward card, Amalgamted Bank paying 1% on everything.

1FBUSA First Financial Bank USA... they target or used to target 18-21 yr olds.. got it as soon as I turned 18

My first card is an Apple Card with a $250 SL as a 22-year-old in college. I had no experience with credit whatsoever and only wanted the card because it was Apple and I thought the metal card was cool. Then one of my friends referred me for Disco and then I discovered myFICO. The rest is history.

In retrospect, I am glad I got the card as it has grown 48X its original SL and probably wouldn't see that much growth as quickly with another lender, let alone as a first card!

My first card in my own name was a Gary Wheaton Visa, when I was 16. Dropped it when I went off to NYC for college.

I can not remember the original name of the first card I opened aside that is was some starter card with US Bank. After about 5 years US Bank did an automatic PC to the then newly released Perks+. It was this card up until last year when I asked for a PC to a Cash+.

$300 Capital One MC (no other branding and no AF) when I was 20. I closed it 2 yrs later after I had cards from Citi and Discover and didn't know any better.
