I've got an itch to apply - Im looking to open a new account - one that is geared for rewards for traveling, flights. I'm looking at either trying 1. The Southwest rapid rewards card through Chase or 2. The Navy Federal more rewards card. I was also looking at the Go rewards simply becuse they have a 20k bonus ($200) point reward currently - but the more rewards card works better for me in reagrds to my everyday use. - is 200$ bonus worth it?

With the SouthWest card via Chase, I sit at 4/24 since my Apple card has not reported yet (its 5/24 w/ my apple card) - is it even worth it to try and apply right now before that tradeline is added? Will they just close it out if they see that card added if i happended to be approved? This is the card I'd really want because I only really fly southwest and have a lot of travel planned in the next year. Would you try for the SW card or just skip and go for the NFCU?

Current DTI is 3%

Income: 89K

No lates > 3yrs

TU: 3 inq - EQ- 1 EX- 2

F8: TU 678 EX: 654 EQ: 669

F9: TU: 619 EX: 657 EQ: 669

I'm a huge fan of NFCU for their customer service and generous limits! However you should also consider the Wells Fargo Autograph since it has 3% on travel and a $300 bonus. Can be trickier to get approved for though and the credit limit is likely to be less generous if you are approved.

There's really no telling if Chase would shut you down when the apple card reports. Chase does have good products.

On the other hand, NFCU is of course one of the best CUs, and the MR is a solid card. I have one myself and have already redeemed probably around $300 in rewards this year cause of the cashback on gas and dining (my two single highest expenses monthly due to my 100% travel job).

Bit the bullet and applied for NFCU - not an auto approval but also not a denial - got the:

We’ve received your application for a GO REWARDS® card and will review it as soon as possible.

Im okay with this considering I had two NFCU cards that were in collections for about two years that I paid back in FULL in April of this year - also Opted for the reward points on the Go Rewards and will attempt to swap to the More Rewards after 90 days if approved.

The More Rewards is a great card, but it's not really a travel card. The 3% categories do include transit, but that's things like Uber or busses, not rental cars, hotels or flights. For that, you need the Flagship. Which since you're rebuilding and don't already have a card with them, probably isn't the best choice. The MR is also an Amex, which isn't as widely accepted worldwide as VISA or MC. Though it does have no foreign transaction fee, a couple of the Amex travel protections (worldwide emergency and roadside assistance, North America-only secondary collision coverage), and supposedly 25% off some car rentals (never used it). And as you noticed the SUB is pretty weak right now. Last year, it was as high as 25,000 points ($250, since it's really a cashback card). You could wait and see if it gets better toward the holiday season, or get the Go Rewards and product change it in a year (though I'd double check that Amex to VISA or MC isn't a problem). Speaking of points, they're redeemed in chunks of 5,000 ($50), which is fairly high. Though given the 3% categories are pretty broad, I find it's not that hard to hit.

It's my favorite card, and Navy has been excellent. But if your main goal is a travel card, it might not be the right one for you.

Best of luck to you. Many have said they got back in with Navy after making good on their debts with them. Getting back in is the main objective and proving yourself over time. Let your scores climb over time. They are great with rebuilds and can overlook many things. Best of luck on your rebuild.
