Primary Car Rental Insurance Credit Cards

So, I'm still on the AMEX Blacklist following my BK13 discharge in 2020. It is no longer on my report, so it won't affect approvals anymore, but AMEX has a long memory. I used to pay for Primary Car Rental Insurance. It was an add-on selection you could do with AMEX and it would allow me to pay $24.99 for up to 42 days of primary coverage as opposed to taking the daily $20 damage waiver the rental car agencies would sell you.

So, my question is this: are there any other cards you guys can recommend that offer primary insurance, paid or otherwise? I have some trips coming up and could really use it to save money.

All US-issued Visa Infinite cards and the Chase Sapphire Preferred immediately come to mind.

Chase Sapphire Preferred looks like a fairly good option. The AF of $95 over the course of a year would probably even be less than I would spend with AMEX's fee with every rental. Good find. Now, the question is: am I off Chase's blacklist yet? Looking for more suggestions before I make any decisions to apply. Those Visa Infinite cards annual fees are prohibitive.

I'd want to stick with an issuer with good customer service and which many people had already reported a smooth claims process.

So Amex, Chase, or one of a new CUs.

Depends on where you are driving. Some cards that offer secondary CDW in the US provide primary CDW internationaly ... such as Citi Costco Visa Signature ...

The Preferred Cash Rewards from USAA is not a travel card but it does offer primary rental coverage and has no annual fee. It also offers flight interruption/cancellation coverage. I used it myself for car rentals after I downgraded my Platinum to Gold.

USAA is not an option for me. Don't have anyone in my family that is a member and I've never been in the military and don't work for any approved companies. Thanks for the suggestion.

So, I am an AU on my wife's Amazon card. You think I'm still blacklisted? I know some banks that you burned wouldn't even let you be an AU. Is this true for Chase?

How much are rental car companies charging for damage waivers these days?

My impression is that with card-provided benefits, you are still getting a bill from the car rental company, and HOPING the card's benefit covers it.

In contrast, the rental company's own damage coverage would mean that you never got a bill in the first place. I prefer not to "jump and hope my parachute works", just give me a good plane!

The cards that offer primary coverage are top notch and there are no hoops to jump through. Just report it and the rental agency will be paid. Your own own insurance company won't even be notified.

If you can't qualify for a premium travel card you can always buy a travel insurance policy. Allianz offers primary rental car insurance as well health insurance benefits for ~$138 year.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
The Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver benefit provides reimbursement for

This is one of those situations where I would love to find out I'm mistaken, since I have the card as well.

@heirophant, check out the Approval forum for recent approval data points with a BK on reports or Chase IIB. Here are a few I found:

Chase is known to hold a grudge for a very long time, but YMMV. Research and see if your credit pattern is similar to the the recent data points. Of course, the only way to know if you are forgiven is to apply.

Alright, took a flyer on a CSP. It is under review, so maybe I'm not on Chase blacklist. They pulled EQ and EX. With my scores, though, if I am not on blacklist, I would be surprised. I would think instant approval. Got no baddies, good income, and good DTI. I don't know, I'll post back once I receive their response and hopefully it's something I can recon and not a denial for prior account being included in BK which is no longer in report. Fingers crossed.

WF Bilt, primary except for NY residents, also primary overseas, except for Israel, etc.
