So it's not very hard to hit 5,000 points/$50. But as I start getting more cards with higher rewards in specific categories, it's going to start taking much longer to hit that redemption limit.

Navy's an interesting case. They're broadly popular, but they're also unpopular among certain groups. And I can see why, from the way their cards are structured. They're really good at hitting broad categories of mainstream spend with good cashback rewards, but they don't have any of the 5% in one narrow category cards. So they're excellent for people with just a couple cards -- I'd argue that the CashRewards + More Rewards or Flagship + More Rewards are among the best two-card setups out there -- but for people with a Custom Cash, a Cash+, a Freedom Flex, a Discover It, and so on, most of the spend that would go to the Navy cards will shift to the 5% cards, making the $50 redemption limit much harder to hit. The Navy cards will mostly stick around because of utilization padding, or perhaps balance transfers, foreign travel, or the occasional need for network protections.

After about two months with the NFCU Flagship card, I don't particularly care for NFCU's rewards structure. 5,000 points ($50) minimum redemption and can only be redeemed in 5,000 point ($50) increments for cash or can use points to pay for, I believe, up to 4 individual transactions at one time. I find it to be too restrictive compared to other cards. It's a great card for a heavy spender or if this was someone's primary card, but if you have other cards already? Not so much.
