US Bank Shop with points at amazon

US Bank has been sending email about this "great new benefit", paying with points at Amazon. Usually I am very skeptical about this, as some cards pay less than 1cpp when used on Amazon. However, linking my Cash +, just to see, it is actually a slight benefit in that is bypasses the $25 redemption minimum (like Real Time Rewards does as well) while giving 1cpp.

Probably well known, but hey, I just learned it!

I got email for AR, Cash+, Go, and Connect

Other than AR, i usually have them deposited to US Bank checking account. Since Connect and Go points are pooled, it's easy to reach minimum redemption threshold, Cash+ has more than $25 in rewards every month, it's piece of cake.

This "new benefit" is totally useless to me, but I can see value for those with more casual use.

Hey, nothing "casual" about my use, many store clerks use the phrase "laser-focused" along with some other things I can't quite hear as they say them softly with hands over their mouth.

Don't you know you're supposed to pay with flashiest card then walk out with broken heard when you realize ain't nobody giving a single turd about your 1kg credit card.

That doesn't happen. I explain to the very interested clerk when I got the card, which bureaus were pulled, SL, and starting APR (we need an abbreviation for that, SAPR?) each CLI, whether auto or manual (and if manual SP or HP), any APRR. my other cards, my partner's other cards, cards I have recently seen and so on. They are so interested I have seen their mouths drop open and their eyes become a little unfocussed. And that's just for a set of fairly normal cards.

As a general rule, I try not to use rewards to pay for new purchases. When you do that, you are missing out on any new rewards earnings for those purchases - in this case possibly 5% CB at Amazon.

Oh yes, i agree. It's useful only in the context that other cards offer worse terms!

But I assume a lot of people do do this, as many issuers are offering it (OK, maybe the uptake is very small). "For convenience", just like Dynamic Currency Conversion

I'm just hoping for the occasional deal on Amazon where I can use $0.01 worth of U.S. Bank rewards to get $40 off the way they do with the other points currencies!

For cashback cards, it is never good to redeem points to pay Amazon etc. Same with Discover cashback.

When you redeem points to cash, you can use cash again to earn points or rewards. But you do not earn more if you redeem at checkout.

Cash is the king. Always.

It's not just US Bank, Amazon is allowing the "Shop With Points" program through many credit card companies, including AMEX, Discover, Cap One, Citi & Chase to name some. It's utilizing the rewards programs of each card to pay, so point conversions will vary.
