AMEX Classic Green Card

Does anyone know anything about the classic green card? I called AMEX today they said I have an offer to upgrade to that card.

AMEX told me it's 3x MR pts all everything I buy with a $55 AF. It did not sound right I ask before I did that. If that was the case I think everyone would get that card.

that is what I would like to know. Isn't the standard "Green card" like a 95-dollar AF?

Slightly less rewards than the gold card but allows you to book travel through 3rd party. Current offer according to AMEX site is 3x on restaurants, including takeout and delivery in the US, 3x on transit Including trains, buses, ferries, subway, 3x on travel including airfare, hotels, cruises, tours, car rentals when booked through third party travel or amex travel, 1x on other purchases. Current SUB is 40k points for $2000 spend in 6 months, $150 AF

The AMEX rep said Classic Green Card. I will update when I get the new card. They said the post will take 10 to 14 to get the new card and terms but can use the old card still.

I just do not think there is such thing of upgrade to the classic Green Card. I was thinking about the upgrade from Everyday MR card. But that is a credit card. Green card is the very first MR charge card. That is the lowest or the beginner MR charge card.

Do not know what card you "upgrade" from.

My understanding is that the PC has to be an option on the account, but it depends. From what I've read, most of the newer Green Card cardmembers may not have the option to downgrade/PC, it's mostly for those who may have had legacy products like the former Gold (prior to the refresh), PRG, Platinum or former iterations of Green that were refreshed during 2019. I was able to downgrade a long while ago since the option was available and I really didn't need duplicates of the same one.

The sole Membership Rewards-earning card issued by American Express with the word "Classic" in it is the American Express Classic Gold Card. It earns a base of 1x with 2x on airfare purchased directly from a passenger airline and 2x at restaurants in the US only. Somewhere something has been lost in the conversation; I'd happily pay ten times that $55 annual fee for a card that earned 3X MRs on all purchases!

This is likely the current iteration of my first Amex card, which earned no rewards and was simply called The American Express Card (this is the green nostalgic card many of us "of a certain age" recall), but later had an option to pay an additional fee to earn Membership Rewards and that card was then actually named the catchy and short The American Express Card Now with Membership Rewards.

The problem is that, I do not think we can upgrade to any card that is not even active. Chase Ritz was an exception. That is closed now.

AmEx has only one Green card that is open to any new cardmember.

Maybe they are saying it is $55 more, and not just $55? $95 + $55 would get you to the $150.

I think MRs on Amazon have a very bad exchange rate, less than 1c per point. But haven't checked recently

This is what I am starting to think as well. And it does earn 3x, albeit only on certain spending not all.
