There's no fixed amount of time. It varies by profile and is based on many factors - how long ago the delinquency happened, the amount, whether it's paid or unpaid, etc. Most likely though, yes, you're looking at years.

Typically, Chase will not approve with BK on file, there were a few denials that resulted in successful recon, I personally wouldn't count on it.

If you burned them, you can assume years, decade, sometimes longer.

If you didn't burn them, once BK falls off.

Waited 10 years .... surprised to get a preapproved offer in mail.. for slate, it was legit with a $12,500 limit.. took it ..18 months zero rate

After 15 years, my hubby just got back in last week as primary on a CFU. This was after 6 joint CAF accounts opened and closed over the last 8 years and AU on my Amazon Visa for the last 10. However, we don't know if he would've been approved earlier as this was the first attempt.

My Chapter 13 included a Chase credit card with over $10,000 outstanding, the discharge fell off in early 2022 and I applied in late 2022 for a CSP; I was approved right out of the gate for $11,700. Not sure if I would have been approved if I'd done an online application or not, in my case the application happened as part of the process of opening a checking and savings account while in a branch.

I got back into Chase a few months after my chapter 7 bankruptcy dropped off all my CR's. I got the Chase Amazon Visa with a preapproval on Amazon's website. I literally started checking every month after it fell off.BTW, Chase was IIB.

The most important factor is how the relationship was severed...

As the others have said, it will largely depend on how BAD they were burned.

Can you tell us how it ended the first time around? (details)

Just a data point. Have a friend who had two cards with Chase that they closed at the end of 2020. He had been running a balance, and had an auto-pay bounce becasue he did not understand that if one has a dollar amount auto pay, it happens even if one has already paid one's minimums (replaced the payment before they even knew it had bounced, but it did not matter). The cards were paid in full and never reported any derogatories (other than the closed by credit grantor note). After getting an offer from them for $225 to open a checking account, he did so, and was surprised to receive pre-approved offers for Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve, various Freedom, Airline and other cards from them. That whole process was less than 24 months. He has not opened a new card with them (he is still angry about them taking his Ulimate Rewards points) and as soon as the six months pass he plans to close the checking account, but they did give him the offer.

I burned chase in 2013...and just now literally 10 years later I have pre approvals from them. I think I am finally off their black list. I think what's helped is my business relationship with them

Burned them in what way?

Also, sorry, but I don't think your business relationship had anything to do with it. Two completely separate divisions.

Bizarre, I had them IIB back in 2015 and got back in this last December. Have you actually tried to apply or are you simply not seeing any preapprovals?

My wife burned Chase/Washington Mutual around the time of the takeover. It wasn't a great amount, maybe $1500. She never tried to get back in, but after having a Chase mortgage and deposit accounts for five plus years she finally gave it a try. Applied for the Southwest priority card in November '22 and was instantly approved for an $18k SL. We assumed all was forgiven. Mid-January '23 she applied for a Southwest Business card and was declined. One of the reasons cited was derogatory prior relationship. So even when they let you back in there appears to be somewhat of a probationary period where they want to see that they can trust you before they let you ALL they way back in.

Chase finally let me in after a 2015 Chapter 7 still reporting. I did call the recon line and was asked about the Chapter 7. I just told the rep that it was back in 2015. They asked about a recent refinace on a Sofi loan. It took a while to get my card. I actually got charged the 95 annual fee on the Marroit card before even recived the card. I was able to setup Google and Samsung pay before the card arrived. Chase gave my 5000 limit which I was pretty happy about. No I am trying to decide if I want to trade in the Amex travel to Chase. I like Amex but, they keep rasing the annual fees. It almost to the point, maybe I should just save that fee for travel every year rather than get thier travel cards. I am talking about the Platinum card of course. What if I just pay myself 695 a year for travel? That is as flexable as it gets becasue I can use it anyway I want. Yes, they give you credits but many are broken up so you are forced to spend more money just to take advantge of the credits

My question is will attempting to get back in with Chase result in a hard inquiry? Or will you be denied before the inquiry based off SSN?

I can't give you a 100% guarantee on this, but when I opened my checking and savings account the associate told me I was approved for a credit card before I agreed to apply for one. What is funny is just that morning I checked their preapproval site and it didn't show any credit cards. So here's my assumption, the hard pull I got for opening my CSP happened (a few minutes) after I opened the checking and savings accounts, and after I was told I was already preapproved.

Bankers at in bank branch have a different system than what you see on their website and they can see if you have any offers or offers that override the 5/24 rule. Has been that way for many many years. Hope that helps

Putting in my DP here - I burned Chase with a CC settlement (about half of balance) 5/16. I tried to just open a checking account with them 12/23 and they denied me. I may need to wait till the 10+ year mark to get anything from them again.
