General consensus here on the forum is that yes, you will be blacklisted for an amount of time possibly determined by how bad you burned them.

Maybe the softpulls are them checking if you legible for pre screened offers if they even do such a thing.

Are you saying you had a CO and its about to fall off? You never paid them back? If so. It might be maybe the next decade before your back in. You were/are a customer. They can SP all they want. Doesnt hurt anything. Or if your in the SOL. They could go legal. Not much info for us to go by.

Fwiw, back in my early 20's (nearly x3 decades ago), I defaulted with Amex and never paid it back. To this day, I'm still black listed from any Amex core cards and they won't even send me a balance with option to pay it back. I've tried several times to make it right and none of the Reps or UWs I've spoken with have been able to or authorized to get a balance to me.

You're only option is to somehow get them to agree to send a payoff balance or just go with co-branded Amex cards like I did since they won't budge on letting me pay it off after 30 years of the account being in default.

Good luck.

I didn't even owe them any money but did have an epic business collapse and I was Blacklisted for 19 years. Like siad upthread they're SP'ing you because there basically tracking you and you financial situation.

They want you to apply there for one of those cards. Because they know they're not giving you one of their true AmEX cards. So this way they have no liability for cash losses as it's Credit One or Bread you'll owe the money to but Amex gets the swipe fees. So for them it's simply a smart business win-win move.

Though, it should be noted that Amex is the one that referred me to CreditOne 5% and Bread 2% in 2 separate instances a year apart from one another after checking core card pre-approvals to see if they unblacklisted me yet. I accepted both their counter card offers.

It's at least nice (even if not technically cobranded cards with 2 different logos/brand names on them) that they would offer/refer me to the other Amex network cards as an alternative.

Before you give AmEx too much love lol, it's a pop-up everyone who isn't qualified for their AmEx cards will get. They want you to apply there because they have no liability as it's Credit One or Bread you'll owe the money to but Amex gets the swipe fees. So for them it's simply a smart business win-win move.

Makes sense.. The x5% CreditOne is comparable to the Amex BCP (same af, just $1k less cap) and the x2% Bread on everything is comparable to the Amex BCE (averaging out due to the 1% everything for out of category spend on BCE).

Nice to have comparable alternatives.
