topic CSP $50 Hotel Credit Setback in Credit Cards

So, my anniversary for the CSP was 1/27, and my wife had a hotel stay booked through the Chase portal that I purchased on 1/23 for a one day stay on 1/25. The $50 credit didn't post until 1/31, which was after my reset. Since the credit posted after the reset, it took my 2023 credit away.

I contacted Chase through SM, and their first reply must not have read my inquiry, because their response was about the $300 CSR credit, and I don't even have the card. I replied back and the next message came from a Senior Service Specialist 2, and told me that since it posted after the reset they would not re-credit it to 2022 to "remain fair and consistent."

Do you think I'm out of luck? Or should I maybe try calling directly to see if they can do anything? Maybe if I dig into a benefits pamphlet, it'll say something about the credit posting, and maybe my request is moot. But if they haven't stated anything specific in their terms, I feel my request is reasonable.

But if they haven't stated anything specific in their terms, I feel my request is reasonable.

I'm no expert in Chase cards, but it seems unfair to me. If you'd earned the credit before the reset, it makes no sense for them to be able to deprive you of it by delaying in posting the credit. It seems to me that the credit was earned when you booked it. Their delay in giving it to you seems to me to be irrelevant. The statement credit is earned on your purchase, not on their deciding when to get around to giving it to you.

$50 Annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit: A statement credit will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards program, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50. Annual means the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement date after your account anniversary, and the 12 monthly billing cycles after that each year. Annually, the first $50 in Ultimate Rewards hotel purchases will not earn rewards points. Statement credit(s) will post to your account within two days after your purchase posts to your account and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement within 1-2 billing cycles.

When did the hotel purchase post? That may be what threw everything off because if the hotel charge didn't post until 1/27 for example, that would explain why Chase didn't credit you until 1/31, which unfortunately was after your card's anniversary.

This was organic hotel spend that just happened to be at the end of my cycle when I didn't use my credit for the year. We've been using a lot of Marriott points lately and I remembered I had a $50 credit, so we decided to do one for cash.

I'm still waiting for a reply but I'd imagine it'll come tomorrow or Monday.

Update: it took a lot of back and forth by secure messages, but I finally got this resolved. They gave me 5,000 points to offset the $50 credit I lost. I deemed it a sufficient solution, since they wouldn't/couldn't credit me $50 or re-open my 2023 hotel credit.

Next time I'll call. They apparently don't read secure messages and/or just see a keyword and throw a response on that isn't related to the inquiry. One response said I had a CSR (I don't) and at least twice they just reiterated I get a hotel credit every year. Each response that didn't acknowledge my inquiry meant another reset of the "we'll respond in 2 business days", but always was 5+.
