Chase Freedom Original - To Product Change or Not

Is there any reason to stay with the original Chase Freedom?

I don't know about switching over to the CFF - that's a Mastercard, and I have two MCs already. My Chase Freedom is actually my only Visa (Signature) card, apart from Debit cards, and for that reason haven't changed.

But what about changing to a different Chase Visa product, for example, the CFU - that is a Visa Signature also, I assume.

Which would be best to go for, any recommendations on how to proceed ? I wouldn't try to get a Visa Infinite (CSR for example), my profile is not yet strong enough I don't believe.

Your credit line according to your signature is $17k, so a conversion to CSR as a Visa Infinite would be allowable ($10k minimum). However, the sign up bonuses for CSP and sometimes CSR can be massive so you probably wouldn't want to miss out on that.

CFF has some additional earning potential. CFU would be 1.5x across the board rather than 1x with the 5x categories you have now. While not as lucrative as say CSP, those often have decent bonuses as well you would not receive from a product change.

Right, unless you need to keep HP/new account low (because of an upcoming mortgage for example) I don't think there is much point in doing a product change vs new app. But there is no need to do anything one way or the other unless you feel the need. When that time came, I would app for the CFF for the SUB, the new bonus categories, and for the doubling potential of the 5% categories (you would be able to spend $3000 a quarter on the 5% categories, providing you managed the cards well!). CFU is less interesting that way.

But as I said, just keeping the original Freedom is fine too.

I think the main reason people keep the Freedom is for the one quarter of the wholesale bonus a year(requires a Visa).
