Is it possible to downgrade Barclay’s Arrival Plus to non AF card??

I have a Barclays card- World Mastercard Arrival Plus which they have discontinued for new customers a long time ago. This card has a AF of $89 or $95. I have never used any of its benefits despite of having paying AF for the last 7-8 yrs for the sole reason of keeping its huge CL....However, its just a waste of money, so I would like to downgrade it to another card of no AF. Right now I have only one Barlcay's card. Do you think is it possible? Thanks

YMMV. I had a CSR refuse to let me downgrade an Aviator Red when others had been able to do so.

No. It wasn't a big deal for me, just a small preference. It's easy enough to keep AA miles active by using their shopping portal, and I figured I might get another Citi AA card for a nice SUB at some point. I'm not one to fret about keeping every account open possible.

I also have a complicated income situation, with a lot of my investment and business income appearing on separate tax returns. It doesn't take much for a lender to say I have too much available credit with them relative to my (easily explained and documented) income. So I occasionally trim old accounts to get new SUBs (like 100k miles with JetBlue on a card that I got a bit later with Barclays).

And from your updated thread title, FWIW Arrival still exists for existing customers. I actually got my replacement for an expiring no-AF Arrival in the mail today.

Good luck trying to do a product change with Barclay's. I have tried multiple times to change my Ring card. Each time I've been told ineligible. And I get it about spooking lenders. Seems like we are in different times rite now. I had opened 3 cards spaced out this year. My next oldest card is now 3 years old newest is a month old. When my newest hit the reports, for giggles, I pulled annual credit report. Not only did Barclay's, Cap1, the usual culprits of soft pulling my reports sp me, but so did Amex and USB. Crazy times. Luckily no AA. Always safe to tread lightly, especially in today's times.

From what I understand, they aren't allowing product conversions of legacy products like Arrival and no customer initiated APR reductions. I don't see why they don't allow conversions within the Barclays family of products. What's going to happen to Ring, Rewards, Cash Forward, Arrival, Arrival Plus, Arrival Premier and View?

Barclaycard is focused on cobranded cards (AA, JetBlue, Wyndham, cruises, retail) and their Luxury/Black/Gold/whatever family.

You probably be right that Barclay's is not allowing product conversion of their legacy products, however, some sites on google are saying that they do product change but don't know how old those postings are though. I guess only way to know is contacting them. I don't want to get the risk of CLD or closing out my account by poking the bear since I have no activity whatsoever in 9 months, so I made a few charges on the card 3 days ago...Would let those posted and then would try to contact then about this....

You might want to look for details outlined in some of the reports of successful product changes as that could help provide clues as to when those product changes may have occurred.

BarclayUS used to be at least somewhat amenable to product changes within their core line when they still had an inventory of core cards - one common example was their allowing downgrades of the $89 AF Arrival+ to the no-AF Arrival even after the Arrival was closed to new applications - but issuers generally don't support product changes from a core to a co-branded product line or between co-branded product lines unless it's part of a contract-driven bulk migration tied to a product retirement or a cherrypicking of clients. Some members here may remember BarclayUS transitioning out a large number of cardholders a couple of years ago across multiple product lines (including some Arrival+ accounts) to a different issuer who then issued them Mercury cards at the same CL.

I think there are some members over here who were able to do product change of this Arrival+ card to another non-AF card...I remember reading one of them posting about it. I think the person got approved for another card and then asked Barclay's to transfer pretty much most of his CL on Arrival+ to new card. If anyone who knows about that posting then please post the link to it, and anyone who were able to do product change of their Arrival card+ then please do share your experience. Thanks

I don't know if this will help, back in July of this year I had 2 creditcards with Barclay's Ring mastercard with a 10K limit and the view mastercard with 20K limit. I wanted to close the Ring mastercard because I had the credit limit cut back couple of times for no use so I did not want to go through this any more so I ask if I could transfer the 10K limit from the Ring mastercard to the View Mastercard. Spoke to credit department and was able to transfer the 10K limit to the View creditcard making the view Mastercard having a 30K limit and closing the ring mastercard account. See if you can open a new account and transfer the credit line to the new card. Good luck.

Thanks. Barclay is kept reducing my CL every 4 months for the last one and half year, and Im very tired of it.....They are doing it despite of me using the card, not heavy purchases but a bit here and there....So far I have been able to get reinstated my CL because of my credit score is 847 across all 3 major CBs...Also, I dont want to pay $95 AF for nothing because I really dont use the card for the last 7 years but I would like to keep the CL because I have huge CL on the card.

I have total 3 cards with Barclays...First is Arrival plus which has $95 AF and this is the card I want to get rid off bit not the CL...

Second is Red Aviator AA one which is going to Citi in next month wherein I assume I would be able to downgrade to non AF card, and I do have time to do so because I got this card only in this August.

Third card is : GM which is non AF card and this card shifted to Barclay from Goldman Sach in this year. So, this is the only card I could ask them to move my CL to from Arrival+....

If they could transfer the CL to my GM card then it would be nicer; otherwise I would try to open another card with them, however not sure which one though....

Did you give any reason to Barclay as to why you wanted to move the whole CL to your View account? Was your View account newly opened account at that time?? Thanks

The view mastercard was the old uber creditcard which Barclay's change over to the View mastercard when they ended their rekationship with Uber.

Another thing is I was tired of having to ask Barclay's to increase the credit line back to its orignal limit after they would cut limit back to 3019 dollars every several months and I did not want to give the 10K limit on my credit reports so I moved the whole 10K limit over to the View Mastercard, they never cut back the limit on the view Mastercard at all.

When did you relocate the CL? By the way, when you relocated the CL to View card, was this View card just purchased by Barclay at that time, or you had View card for a while when relocation of CL was done??

I did contact Barclay and asked them to relocate my entire CL from Arrival+ card to my GM card, but agent said that CL couldn't be relocated to GM card because its a 3rd party card even though its now managed, purchased and issued by Barclay bank. I am told that it has to be a card from Barclay to Barclay even though I couldn't quiet understand.

I have 3 cards right now by Barclay. (1) Arrival+ card. This is the card I would like to transfer CL from and then would like to close it out because it has AF and its kept reducing my CL every 3-4 months. (2) Red Aviator AA card. But this is going to move to Citi next month and this is an AF card which could be able to downgrade to another non-AF card with Citi...at least it could stop reducing CL of my Arrival+ card. Not sure but I think I should be able to transfer my CL to this one. (3) GM card . This is non-AF card and purchased by Barclay last year wherein I was refused to transfer CL to.

Update:

I called back and requested to speak with a credit analyst for transfer of CL from Arrival+ to my GM card. Credit analyst was a very nice lady who was able to do it within a second which was earlier refused by customer service rep. So, I was able to move entire CL from Arrival+ to GM card, and then closed the donor card which I have had for the last 11 years but for the last one and half year Barclay is kept reducing its limit every 3-4 months which a hassle to get back the limit...So, I am glad that I am able to move the entire CL...

Yes calling and asking for the credit department and speaking to a credit analyst will get the job done they are base out of Delaware, where customer service is nost of time is overseas. I had the same situation like you had, Ring mastercard with a 10K limit wich would be cut every 3 to 4 months did not want to go through this every time the limit was reduced. I also had a View mastercard which had a 15K limit which was the old Uber visa card. We can not do any thing so I spoke to a credit analyst who first increase the View mastercard from 15K to 20K then moved the 10K Ring mastercard over to the View mastercard now making the limit on View MC 30K and closing the Ring mastercard. Now try that with Citibank or Capital one. I spoke about this in earlier post, With Barclay's speak to the Credit department or ask to talk to US state side customer service.
