Chase IHG card good deal?

Chase IHG card is 175,000 points after $3,000 in spend. Anyone picking up this card and is it worthwhile? I'm under 5/24 and have never had this card. Looking to see if what people's thoughts are on it. I don't do IHG stays often (although once in awhile it is necessary) since it is not my preferred chain but I can always add them in to a trip. AF of $99 is not waived, but can get a $50 credit to united travel bank and I do have a United travel bank so I would be able to use that credit eventually for sure. I'm not really sure what other chase card I would go for. I just picked up an ink card so I don't need another one of those. It will be awhile before the bonus resets on my sapphire cards. Already have the hyatt card which just renewed and I don't really fly southwest. Anyone know if the program is worthwhile? I've kinda blown it off in the past but there seem to be a lot of these properties along my travel route where maybe I can make real use of this. The marriott card is only offering 100k.

Like you, IHG is not my primary chain but I do stay there sometimes. And I like hotel cards that give a free annual night inclusive, as this card does. And as you said, the 175K point SUB right now is excellent, if nothing else. I'm not sure this is a long-term card for me, but thought it was worth an application.

I also wanted to test-the-waters with Chase (and AMEX) to see if I could squeeze a little more TCL out of either of them. (I didn't. Both approvals borrowed from existing higher limit cards, but at least they were approved, plus I have the enhanced SUBs on IHG and Hilton.)

I have the business version of this card and absolutely love it.

depends. I have an old $49 consumer and a $99 biz. don't use either card, both were for the sub and free nights. the biz helped with the global renewal. the platinum elite upgrades work for free nights. the card is useful for off season use at kimptons or other properties with reduced rates. works very well in europe, lots of places to stay. I used it for the below last year for a night. the upgrade was to their penthouse with a putting green, 3 bedrooms, kitchen and a 360 view of the city. it was insane. many folks use villach as a jumping point to other places, its not a full on destination. 175 pts = 4 nights + the 5th free and an n/c night in a year if you play it right. seems like a no-brainer to me but everyone has a different opinion. because its a travel card larger limits may be possible which can be moved to other accounts if desired. disclaimer: big chase fan

Nice redemption. Dunno if I will be in villach but I am looking to spend some time in Europe. Maybe London/Germany/Salzburg, so IHG may be worthwhile for Europe.

just an example. I was doing a graz -> ferrara leg and did not want to do 520km in a day, hence villach. that is an insanely great offer. makes me wonder if they will raise the biz version, its been that way for some time, that was the sub in 5/22 when I got mine. munich if that is what you are thinking + salzburg are no good for ihg, its holiday inn only I believe + location is everything in those places. berlin is much better, one just needs to run the exact locations. is your global entry up for renewal? free night, upgrades and late checkout. and sometimes free drinks, there is always a welcome gift that is semi-negotiable.

Berlin is on my list of places I will visit along with London. Was considering heading back to Poland as well. Still working out the details but I gotta start and end in London I think.

175k is the highest SUB i've ever seen on this card. I have both the old $49 fee and this $99 fee card. The $99 fee card is my daily driver. The 3x and 5x categories add up quickly. With 175k you can easily get a 10 night stay at a lower end IHG property in SE Asia. And when I say "lower end", these properties in SE Asia make the US properties look sad.

A brand new Staybridge Suites just opened up in Bangkok. Normally I stay at the Crowne Plaza Lumpini Park, but moving to the Staybridge next trip. Cost 13,500 points a night. Every room has a washer/dryer. Only place in SE I can see 175k not going far is Singapore. But everywhere else you got yourself a nice vacation.

Go for it. Its really not a bad card to have.

Most of these points sound valid but I always take what bloggers say with a grain of salt since they are getting referrals. Still this card seems like a good deal.

curious, do you have any biz cards, what is the date of your last consumer app, do you have chase cards, what is your ex and when is your global renewal? I hate the 1 year reset bs which is one reason I don't do consumer credit anymore.

Have business cards with different lenders. Two chase business cards at the moment. One I got like a month and a half to two months ago. The other I have had for several years. I had two other no AF ink cards that got closed out by chase for inactivity because I never used them. Really not a big loss because I was gonna close them anyway and they approved me for a new chase business card shortly thereafter. Last personal card with chase was six months ago. In terms of the CSP I'm not sure but I think I have had it for over 2 years so maybe another year or two before that bonus resets.

I get the picture, did not know how active you were. how long were the inks inactive? you already took the hit for the credit reset, so app away or wait until the bonus swings over the the business product. 175 is a lot of pts

App is already in and is pending. Gotta wait till Monday for lending. The inks they closed I likely had for years. One of them was a downgrade from the preferred like two or three years ago. I didn't see a reason to keep the preferred when I picked up the CSP. I think the other card was always a no AF card. The ink card I use the most is actually an old Bold card that I got back way back when Bold cards were charge cards so that one is probably 7 or 8 years old.

ah good luck, worst case you will have to shift limits to open the ihg. I keep the cip for cell and that is about it. ink cash is in the car for fuel. none of my cards get much use until I leave the county. if you ever get to ausin you can usually use the free night at the kimpton there, just get a room on the quiet side. fun hotel and great location

Hmm actually on my list of places to visit so I will keep that in mind. I had the CIP for cell protection as well but I gave it up because I ended up getting the venture card and I can get cell phone protection on that. I would have reapplied for a CIP when I went for my last ink card but the initial spend requirement was more than I wanted to spend. Otherwise I would got the CIP and ditched the CSP which I only keep around so I can move points

I had the unfortunate experience of having 2 heart procedures in st davids in 2021. thank god for medicare, just stepped on a plane. below is my list, also saw F1 which was nice. travel safe!
