Amex hotel credit

If I book a room with the hotel credit via amex do I get the credit when I book the room or is it only after the stay is completed? Thinking of downgrading card but wanted to use hotel credit for future stay. Not sure if it would even trigger until I check in/out.

A cobrand card annual benefit?

An Amex "Offer for you" for a specific brand booked with the hotel (and not Amex Travel)?

An Amex Travel "Offer for you" credit specifically for prepaid hotel bookings through Amex Travel?

A general Amex Travel offer?

During your stay. The receptionist will tell you about your credit when you check-in at the hotel (and if they don't, make sure you ask about it). It'll be applied to your bill at check-out.

Think you are talking about a different credit for use during the stay. This is a $200 credit that applies to prepaid stays. The problem is I will likely be downgrading the card before the credit posts so I'm not sure I want to run the risk of not getting the credit

"Please allow up to 90 days after an eligible charge is posted to the Card Account for the applicable statement credits to be posted to the Card Account. Call the number on the back of your eligible Card if statement credits have not posted by that time. To be eligible for this benefit, your Card account must not be cancelled or past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment."

Hmm sounds like they handle it differently than they do airline credits. Not really suprising since you are booking through them.

You do not need to check in or check out for this credit if you pre pay for the hotel.

once you prepay for the hotel and it shows up in your activity, Amex will get around to crediting you the $200. It can take a week or it can take a couple months.

I've always had mine within a few weeks except one time it I still didn't have it for over a month and I contacted customer service and explained I understood Amex says up to 90 days but usually I had it within a few weeks and wanted to confirm there wasn't any problem with the booking.

I think I got it escalated and the credit was fulfilled within a few days or a week from that.
