Will Chase Reallocate Credit from United Explorer to Sapphire Preferred?

My friend wants to product change from a Sapphire Preferred to a Sapphire Reserve, but does not have enough credit on his Sapphire Preferred card. If he reallocated credit from his United Explorer and his Freedom cards ($2,500 each), he'd have more than enough. It was my understanding that moving credit from his Freedom card should be easy, but I was not sure if one can move credit from on of their Affinity cards to one of the Chase branded ones.

Is that possible? Is there any downside?

Yes, can move credit limit between all Chase cards. No downside.

What I would try first, is request a credit limit increase online or phone app (they are a soft pull on credit file) again no downside.

Try CLI's on both Chase cards.

ETA: Then you can call to product change. Move limits if need be.

Yes. They'll also do a reallocation pretty much instantly via text if there is no request for additional credit.

The day you see me with a $550 AF card is the day that salt blossoms. But, if, and I mean IF, I were to get a $550 AF card, there is no way I'd do so without at least getting the huge intro bonus. PCing gives up the bonus.

First, the card has a $300 statement credit against travel purchases, so that makes it at most a $250 annual fee. Second, the card reimburses for Global Entry at that is another $100 (as his will expire this year). That takes the fee down to $150, for which he gets Priority Pass Lounge and Restaurant access. It does not take too many lounge visits with one or two guests to cover that cost.

Second, the reason he is going to product change to Sapphire Reserve rather than Freedom and then apply for a new card, is that it the Reserve benefits are for me, and I do not want to wait a year to get them. As I mentioned in another thread, I am an authorized user on his Preferred card, and I am going to apply for a new Sapphire Preferred card to get the 90,000 point sign up bonus (with 10,000 for him as a referral) vs. a 60,000 point sign up bonus for a Sapphire Reserve card. However, I cannot product change for one year until as there would be annual fee increase (a card issue cannot change the annual fee in the first year, even if the consumer requests it). While I am waiting, I want the Reserve benefits, so he will PC his card, and a year later, I will PC mine and he will down grade his, then apply for a new Sapphire Preferred (which he will hold until he decides he needs to travel enough to make it worth getting the Reserve).
