I'll take it on the chin if so. Here's the scenario:

Have had a couple cars financed with them, joint accounts with my (now Ex) wife over 10 years ago. No other business.

Recently opened an Amazon Visa card, and thought it odd that they bound the account to my old accounts due to the name/DOB/Social match. Knew that because CS told me and I couldn't create an account, had to password recover the old. Raised the issue with them that I could see my Ex's info on the account. They removed all visible references to it, and I *just checked again, nowhere on the account screens.

Got an email from her this morning, that she got this months statement close notice emailed to her - with a copy of the mail. And that she did a password recovery on her old login and can see my account. Keep in mind here the Visa has her nowhere referenced.

I'm about to lose it on Chase... would you?

Just a hunch. No Chase expert. Go by a branch since you said "joint" accounts. And get a divorce there too?

Chase does not allow duplication, so they added Visa to the existing account you have

Instead of losing it, you need to go to Chase branch with divorce decree and see if they will allow you to create another account. They cannot remove her because those old accounts are also her accounts.

If there are no branches, call and explain again (and again) until someone who has the authority to allow for creation of new account shows up. You just need to indicated you're now divorced and visa needs to be separate from accounts you both had prior to marriage (or partnership) dissolution.

Seem's odd. I would definitely go in branch to resolve the issue. Once they figure out that you truly have separated I would imagine they can allow you to set a new account.

I agree that it sounds like they never separated you from that account so it's linking it all together. I had the potential for a similar situation with Bank of America. My ex kept our joint checking account and I had myself removed. I don't show it on my current dashboards for the new deposit accounts I opened or my credit card accounts, and as far as I know she doen't see mine either.

Worst case scenario, besides removing yourself from her account, they could close and reopen her checking account (with a new account number) to distinguish from your accounts. Probably is best to work it out in-branch with a banker.

I had a similar problem with Truist, when it was still BB&T. I opened a new checking acoount and Visa. The statements went to my ex despite the fact my profile listed my correct mailing address. I had to go the branch and they had to make a call. It was fixed in 20 minutes.

Guyatthebeach

In addition, send a note to Chase executive office and any other consumer based liaison to share your story. System changes will not occur until there are enough complaints communicating the risk/hazard of merging new individual accounts with old joint account/account holders.

Yes you are...

It's probably user error/not understanding

Chase OLB log ins are connected to a SSN. Sooo often couples use the game log in and have no idea they've been using one connected to the other...

An RB can pull up your profile in branch and see what user name is connected to you..

If you ever had a biz account and merged logins that's another possible reason
