Getting Cash Back for Verizon Cable/Internet/Phone Spend

Hi All! Do any of you pay for Verizon Cable & Internet and get cash back by paying with your credit card? I paid my Verizon bill with my Elan card, but did not receive cash back because, although it shows as a "VERIZON BILL PAYMENT VERIZON.COM FL" it was coded as "CALLS THROUGH USE OF MAGNETIC STRIPE - READING TELEPHONES"

I'm looking for the best option to get 5% cash back for this spend.

Dont think there is such a thing or I'd have it. AMEX has 6% for streaming which covers my Peacock. If you have any 2% CB cards. Thats all I know about it.

@FireMedic1 Ok. Thank you! If you have Verizon for cable or internet, does it code the same way? It's really unfortunate since it's my understanding that Xfinity works with US Bank cards as a category.

Whichever card you have that has the highest cash back. Use the one. I'm sure you pay online.

@FireMedic1 Unfortunately none of them have 5% so I was looking for something that would have that category. Wanting a card similar to, but not the Citi Custom Cash to get 5%. The rest of my cards are 2%.

Not sure how it is coded on the backside. Maybe use cellphone as your category? Or perhaps the BMO Cash Back card?

@BigBS It's coded as 04814 and not allowing 5% for TV internet category on my Elan card. Someone else mentioned that using Paypal Credit may work. I'm waiting to hear back.

I can only use one or the other with the card. Is the BMO Cash Back Card available to those in the US. Thank you for mentioning this.

It may be area specific, @K-in-Boston has also reported to mag tape description but I think successfully got 5% In Boston FioS at least codes as cellphone rather than internet, but don't know elsewhere. Do you have FioS or some other Verizon product?

The best effective "cash back" card for Verizon spend can be the Synchrony Verizon Card. It provides 2% in credits that you can use toward your bill. That's not a game changer. But auto charging your bill to the card can provide an additional $10 credit on your monthly statement. Sign up for a Verizon cell phone, and you double up on both.

@ngoaa Thank you. I want to make sure I'm clear. You will still get the bonus monthly though correct or does this mean that you won't get the 5% until the anniversary date?

I've been getting 5% back on Verizon landline, DSL and prepaid cell service through the cell phone providers category with the US Bank Cash+ card. I think all Verizon services are covered in that category.

I get the auto pay and loyalty discounts on the prepaid cell service; I don't use Fios. The discounts from Verizon are not card dependent.

Interesting, it looks like prepaid doesn't have the same restrictions as post-paid, where the discounts most certainly are card dependent.

It looks like my Verizon landline payments no longer get the 5% back in the cell phone category. Transactions are getting the MCC code of 4899 for "cable and other pay television," so US Bank's "TV, Internet & Streaming Services" category might be needed. I haven't tried a prepaid wireless payment, yet. Lately, I have been prepaying phone and utilities when I churn credit card sign-up bonuses, so I don't know when the coding change occurred.

As an aside, IRS income tax payments on ACI using Cash+ through PayPal count as utilities, MCC code 4900. The service charge does not count as a utility payment, code 7372.

You can see the MCC codes on posted transactions by selecting the Download icon for a CSV file.
