I hate to admit this publicly because of my often touted staunch commitment of sticking to no-AF cards but I actually did entertain the $75/yr Wyndham Rewards earner+ card. Reason being is I live about 2 hours away from 6 Flags Magic Mountain and we actually have annual passes. It's very convenient to stay at a hotel and go for 2 days in a row. The cheapest hotel I can find is the Days Inn about 10-15 minutes from 6 Flags. And even that is $150/nt. The earner+ would give me 75,000 pts intro bonus and 7,500 per year. They claim the 75,000 is enough for up to 10 nights and the 7,500 up to 1 night per year. Upon deeper investigation, all the hotels in the 6 Flags area are 15,000 pts/nt. That means my bonus would give me only 5 nights and my annual 7,500 wouldn't even give me a night per year. If I could get one night per year (for $75 AF), great, I'd go for it. But since I can't even get that, I abandoned the idea.

https://www.wyndhamrewardscreditcard.com/

P.S. On a related but unrelated note, my 6 year old just reached 48 inches and it has opened up a whole new world at 6 Flags for us! This brave little girl, without any fear, rode Revolution, Gold Rusher, Twisted Colossus, Goliath, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Apocalypse and Drop of Doom were closed, else she would have done those too! She's tall enough for X2 which I know she would do but *cough* even Dad won't do that one *cough*.

Wyndham Points Value?

Looking to possibly start accumulating Wyndham points (Barclays) and had a question. Does anyone know if points can be redeemed for statement credit as a worst case scenario redemption?

They can be redeemed for gift cards, but seem to be worth only about a quarter of a penny when they are:

https://shop.wyndhamrewards.com/25968WYN0WNDHMWNDMRWRDS/shop/gift-cards/_/N-124039

I did have the status match in mind as well, but haven't been able to sell DW on a cruise yet.

@Xanthos472 wrote:

Looking to possibly start accumulating Wyndham points (Barclays) and had a question. Does anyone know if points can be redeemed for statement credit as a worst case scenario redemption?

Barclays-native points can be redeemed as a statement credit, but Wyndham points (for the Wyndham cards) cannot. Honestly, though, Wyndham points have some of the best redemption value out of any chain out there, so long as you're aware of what brands and levels of service Wyndham can provide. They still have an award schedule (7500/15K/30K), and you can get a 10% discount on point redemption with certain cards.

I've been focused on keeping my Marriott status up, but as soon as I hit the tier level I want, those Wyndham redemptions are great for cheap stays across the US on road trips, and the occasional random stays all over the place in spots you wouldn't otherwise expect.

Wyndham also has a status match and tier partnership with Caesars Entertainment in Vegas, and you can transfer points 1:1 for redemption there as comps, or 2:1 Caesars redemption for Free Play.

Finally, while their normal transfer options are pretty bad, they pretty regularly have a bonus on their United MileagePlus transfers that brings it to a 2.5:1 redemption. Still not great, but an option if you have a bunch of points you don't need.

Personally, I'm already a Caesars player, so I often take my Caesars Rewards Credits and transfer them over to Wyndham for safekeeping and future use, while a casino host then does direct comps without draining my RC balance.

TL;DR: There are a lot of options, and I think the Wyndham cards are a really good value.
