You can call customer service and ask about upgrades to both cards at once. I upgraded two cards together about three months ago. So, you may be able to upgrade your Platinum to a Quicksilver and your Quicksilver to a Venture or Savor. I'd confirm that they are bucketed before making decisions about closing and reapplying.

I've heard that the Platinum can only be upgraded to a Quicksilver. If that's true, would the fact that I already have a QS be what's preventing me from ever getting an upgrade on my Platinum (My Platinum has been bucketed for over a decade)? My QS is sock drawered, so would it be worth a shot to PC to a Venture One to see if I get an upgrade offer for my Platinum? Or would such a thing be an exercise in futility? I also thought about transferring limit to my Platinum now that CL transfers are back to put it well outside the bucketed range (e.g. $5,000 or whatever). Thoughts?

My understanding of Capital One buckets is that once in a bucket, always in a bucket, @1LostArk. I don't think that truly "bucketed" cards escape the bucket. The "bucket" or tranche is determined at the time of approval and not further reevaluated.

A low limit card is not necessarily bucketed. My Quicksilver started out as a $1K CL Platinum card but was allowed to pc to a QS and grow 30x to $30K. So obviously, it wasn't bucketed.

As @Lou-natic mentioned, a bucketed card probably won't be shown pc opportunities.

I believe that the best way to escape the bucketed card is to just close it and apply for new, unbucketed cards once profile and FICO has improved.

They start the journey to better things. Thats probably all you could get at the time. Been there done that. Had a Plat/QS and QS1. Once I built some hisory with them. I applied and all 3 were 10k SL's. As far as it growing to 5000 or more. Highly unlikely. Use it a lot. PIF each months helps to get more. But in the end it will still be limited.
