Navy Flagship annual Amazon credit...Dead?

Over the past two years, I've enjoyed Navy giving Flagship holders a reimbursement for the annual Amazon Prime membership fee. Based upon the credit posting timeframe of the past, it appears the benefit has gone the way of the doornail (at least for me). If anyone else has DP's to the contrary, please let us know.

This has been my past experience:

2021

7/30/21: $129.26 fee posted

8/4/21: +$130.00 credit posted (5 calendar days)

2022

7/29/22: $150.99 fee posted

8/3/22: +$139.00 credit posted (5 calendar days)

2023

7/31/23: $150.99 fee posted

*No credit to date, 7 calendar days/5 business days*

Perhaps there will be more frequent spending promos as a consolation, guess we'll see.

The website lists the Prime Membership credit as a one time promotional offer now.

If this holds true then I will probably close out my token bank account as I wanted to get the Flagship to offset my annual Prime Membership cost.

I've had a similar experience @PullingMeSoftly. Prime yearly membership posted on July 17th. No reimbursement so far. Definitely a bummer.

As a $49 annual fee card, the point / reward accumilation alone on the Flagship more than pays for itself. I am sad to see the prime credits disappear, but I will not be canceling my card over it as it has become my goto card for travel and daily use. Only time I find myself not using it is if I am making a purchase that is on Discover's 5% rotating category list.

How do you come up with that? It's a 2% rewards card with a single 3% category. The $49 AF seriously eats into the value of this card. I'd venture to guess that most people with the NFCU flagship would be better served by any other standard 2% cashback card unless they spend at least $2,500 per year on travel every year (the one 3% CB category) and even then there are better no AF card combos that would better serve most people. I love NFCU as much as anybody else but realistically their credit card offerings are mostly middle of the road. I know at one time the Flagship was pretty good and very competitive but that is no longer the case.

I easily spend the $2 to $3k per month on utilities, bills, and other expenses; and I take about 4 cruises per year with my wife taking full advantage of the 3% category. I am in the middle of a rebuild after covid, so for me, the card was a blessing and a lot better than the sub prime cards I had at the time. As I finish my rebuild, my thoughts my change as other options open up for me, but for now, it is a great card and I am happy to have it.

In both 2021 & 2022 I had to send a secure message after the Amazon Prime credit did not post to my account after waiting 6-8 weeks. In both cases Customer Service had to manually post the credit. This year during the last week of July my Amazon Prime annual fee posted to my Flagship and I was automatically credited by NFCU within 3 days - right before my statement closed. The annual credit is still being advertised by Navy Federal for the Flagship, and in my case is definitely still alive and working!

My annual fee posted on July 17, 2023 and to date have not received the credit. I have sent several secure messages to NFCU and they said wait 6-8 weeks for credit to post. My experience in the past was the same as you the credit usually posted within a few days of the charge. Unlike many the card is worthless to me the only reason I kept it was for the Amazon credit. Oh well

I don't have the card but how do you get the $2,500? I would have assumed $4,900 for the extra 1% to offset the fee?

It's my understanding that you were only supposed to get it once, as part of the sign up bonus. I don't see how a $49 per year annual fee card can just give away a $140 item each year.

It's been a curious benefit for sure @SouthJamaica , especially considering the fact that I PC'd to the Flagship from a Platinum, so the reimbursement was never related to a sub for me.

Honestly I'm not sure. $4,900 is correct though. This is one where you have to use the credits they offer to make it worthwhile IMHO. The other thing I don't like about NFCU cards (Flagship and More Rewards specifically) is the $50 minimum for points/cashback redemption. Drop the AF and cut that to $25 (or even better no minimum at all) and they would have a very compelling offering.

I product changed to a Flagship card last March so never expected to get any new account bonuses. I did charge my Amazon Prime membership to the card just in case but was never reimbursed.

Just last week I received an August to October offer of 5 percent on gas and 6 percent on transit charges.

As my previous post stated I also did not receive my Amazon credit.

I had to wait 12 weeks exactly but I sent a secure message to NFCU and they posted the credit within 10 minutes.
It's alive and well.

@ForwardLooking I also have found great value with my Flagship. I use it for my bills that don't have higher than 2% multipliers and it easily pays for itself each very quickly each year. I have a bunch of cards that offer 2% back but I still prefer this one the most.

The Amazon credit was a nice bonus to receive the 2 years I've gotten it. I didn't think they were doing it this year so I went back to using the Prime Visa for Prime since it gives 5% back on the membership renewal (the other 2 years I received emails it was being offered and didn't this year). Even without the Amazon credit, I don't have any plans to cancel or product change my Flagship card.

I think anyone who got more than one year reimbursed for Amazon Prime simply lucked out as the NFCU promotion clearly states it is a one time bonus. I product changed so didn't expect to receive the Amazon promotion at all but based on reports in MyFico, I billed the Amazon charge one time to my Flagship account and didn't receive anything. That turned out to be a bust as my Flagship mailing address is in California which charges their hefty 9.5 percent sales taxes on memberships over $100 like Costco Executive and Amazon Prime. Normally I bill those memberships to AMEX which allows me to add a second address to the account so I use the address of a second home that I have in a state which charges no sales taxes on memberships.

At the risk of getting off-topic, I had no idea Amex would allow this. Thanks for the heads-up!

The trick I use for Amazon is I have an old prepaid card loaded to my Amazon account with an old Georgia billing address - it was current/active when loaded, but I never removed it after I moved. I have Prime set up to use my GC balance first and I make sure to have it replenished so Amazon doesn't try to bill the $0 balance card, but I'm not charged the sales tax because of the billing address on the card.

Received my NFCU Amazon prime membership credit for the third year on the Flagship card.

Sept 1, 2023 billed $150.47 from Prime.

Credit received Sept 6 , 2023 in the amount of $130.00 as NFCU Amazon Prime Credit.

Happy to see this credit appear.
