I think I'd give up body parts before I gave up $700 in AF but, yes, that is a nice welcome bonus compared to the usual. $8k spend in 6 mo's is a tall ask but I guess that is the going rate. Thanks for sharing.

It is a high AF, but, just through my regular spend and where I shop and fly I've managed to offset that cost with no problems. It's not the right card for everyone, but when it is the right card it's fantastic.
The downside is I already have it and will miss out on that great offer of 150k, oh well.

Great MR bonus if the Platinum serves a purpose for the person applying. The AF is brutal though at this point if just going for the MR's alone and I can't find a reason to apply for it as likely would be eligible for the bonus again as lifetime is usually 5 years with AMEX. To much sticker shock compared to tacked on credits and I try to hold any AMEX w/af for two years now before cancelling due to RAT team in the last several years. Thanks for sharing Saleen

Thanks for posting. I just don't see how I can make back that annual fee on the Platinum in my situation.

I wish I had seen that boundless offer a couple weeks ago before I got the card. Oh well I guess 3 nights will have to do.

I wish that offer would ever apply to the Charles Schwab version. If I ever get out of pop up hell I want that card but no way without some kind of SUB, even if its only the 80k points one

Agreed. I checked because I was slightly tempted and the Charles Schwab AMEX platinum is the only version I want.

Yes for the option of depositing 1.10 cents per point into my Charles Schwab account vs normal 0.6 cpp. While I would not normally chose cashing out MR points the flexiblity is there.

This is my stance as well. I most likely would not use my MR points for that but options are nice and its certainly better than other redemption options outside of transferring them to travel partners.

That's $1,333 per month. If one puts all their monthly spend on the AMEX Platinum card I think it's doable.

I'm pretty frugal and I even I could get to 8K in 6 months by putting all my expenses on the card. The thing holding me back from upgrading is the high AF plus I don't know if they'd offer me the SUB.

It's soft pull to see if you are approved and offer the SUB.

I was playing with fire and I wanted to see if I was approved for the card (which I was), but I was not offered the SUB, so I canceled the the app.

It is a nice sign-up bonus, but the thing that I realized about the American Express Platinum card, at least for me, is that after you get that sign-up bonus, you're paying $695 for a card that earns one point per dollar on all categories outside of buying airplane tickets (or using their site to book travel) for every year you use the card thereafter.
