AMEX BCE upgrade to BCP

We just got this offer:
AMEX BCE upgrade to BCP

Earn $150 from $1000 spend within 6 months

AF waived first year.

I know on a previous thread @Anonymous said that he has taken this offer several times and downgraded before the AF comes due the after 12 months without penalty. Seems like a win-win? My only concerns are: is there an HP? (We're gardening for a mortgage) And is this a lock offer or could it possibly be declined when I push it through? Also, does it change the card number? I assume the account info is all the same, doesn't lose history etc.

Since the AF is waived, it is a good offer. These upgrade offers would show up regulary and there is no HP. You may take it now and after a year, you may downgrade to BCE.

No change in the card number and they will ship a new card with updated expiration date.

Thank you. Done. I just requested the upgrade and it went through. I'm stoked. There was a gap this quarter since our rotators CFF/Disc/US Cash+ did not cover gas or groceries and CCC can only cover one. This solves that problem!

Congrats to your BCP and the SUB.

I am also waiting to get such offer to upgrade my BCE to BCP. The typical offer since last year was not waiving AF while receiving only $75 SUB.

Right, that is all I am getting at the moment, despite the fact that this year I am actually putting some spend on the BCE (OK, "up to" $100 a month, but that's more than when I was getting good offers!)

1. Almost always no HP.

2. Nothing's a lock, but this is as close as it comes.

3. Card number and history would almost always stay the same.

For a product change, which this offer is, there's never an HP.

The uncertainty creeps in when someone already has one (or more) cards from Amex and they apply for a new card. In that situation, it's usually an SP, but every so often Amex will do an HP. Personally, I guard against this risk by keeping all my reports frozen. That way, if they attempt an HP, it will be blocked.

I did all my prior Amex upgrade/dowgrade with locked credits. You may request to PC your card using chat from an agent. I have done it once and it was very quick.

I only got the &75 offer, waiting for them to cycle around to the $150 offer.
I did just get an email offer for a 90k point SUB on the gold card, too bad it isn't a useful card for me.

That's the offer I have when I last checked. As soon as I saw it i thought to myself "nope I'm good" lol. Glad to see there are still better offers out there.

Thank you everyone for the information and replies.

I am excited to give this old account new life and get a new card in the middle of gardening! This was DW's old AMEX Blue Sky card PC'd to Cash Magnet PC'd to BCE (Blue Sky to BCE was not allowed). Since we have AOD and even with Blue Sky before that, the iterations of this card have been sock drawered for years. We considered closing the account but didn't because of AAoA. And I did rarely utilize a merchant deal or otherwise keep it alive with occasional $2 Amazon reloads.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger after Xenon's comment reassuring me (although I had been hoping this deal would pop up since reading about others receiving it, but it had not been available to us before). When I saw it was offered I was afraid it could disappear, so I accepted it that night, 10/6. The online portal upgraded immediately, but I just got the new card in the mail today 10/14. AMEX knew before the mail arrived today and sent a notification through the app to my phone. The annual fee is due next year, 10/7/24, which I plan to downgrade before it posts or perhaps try for some retention offer (You know you're a credit card nerd when you've PC'd to a fourth card and have yet another PC planned ). As expected, the card number remains the same, with an updated expiration and CVV code. It's a great deal, $1000 will be easy to spend before 6 months on groceries, and the 6% all year will be better than anything else we'll have. At some point I'll do the calculation if we're headed for north of $6k and possibly utilize a quarter of 5% grocery rotators along the way.

I first noticed this upgrade the month after 2 years of very sparing use after having PC'd to BCE. I occasionally log on to check merchant offers and I believe that was my first login after the 2 year anniversary of the PC. I suppose perhaps if others are waiting for the offer, waiting for your card birthday might trigger the offer. Good luck to all!

When it comes to the AF and the typical rush to PC, it is much relaxed in BCP/BCE game plan. In case of downgrading request at any time (within the next year), the pro-rated AF gets refunded to you. Enjoy your 6% on groceries without AF
