Bilt card: opinions

My daughter is moving to the NYC area and will be paying about $5K a month rent. I was going to recommend Bilt to her for the rent, but as I have never had the card myself, I feel a little reluctant (Some time ago I recommended that 2% card that went away, can't recall the name! ETA: Blis?)

So any pro/cons people have? Again, this is really just for the rent (plus the other transactions needed to get to 5 a month). She is a major United Airlines user and it appears you can transfer the miles there.

There are basically no reasons NOT to use the BILT card to pay rent. As long as you have the funds to pay rent that is.

Free rewards for doing nothing except using the card at least 5x per month.

you can even just pay rent from a checking account while still earning rewards on the bilt card, it's a no-brainer

even better if there's direct intergration with the property management and you can just transfer directly but even without and they have to send a check, 100% worth getting.

I've had it for 6 months or so. My HOA fees are on auto pay. No problems. Its not 5 g's though.

Theres some leasing companies that are part of the program.

Over 3 million rental units across the U.S. participate in the Bilt Rewards alliance. Some of the participating real estate companies include:

Cushman & Wakefield.
Equity Residential.
Highmark Residential.
Starwood Capital Group.
Trammel Crow Residential.
GID-Windsor Communities.

For renters who don't live in a Bilt Rewards alliance property, you can still earn points by paying your rent with the Bilt Mastercard.

I just use my checking.

ltl, I couldn't read anything past $5k/mo rent. The $5k were the headlights and my eyes were the deer.

@ptatohed if the 5k/month rent got you dazed, I'd recommend against looking into what a parking spot can go for. You would not be happy 😄

Her application is still under review (after about 5 days). Is that usual? I had assumed (because she is MY daughter) that it should be quick, obviously not.

Perhaps they do know you are her father and they are putting the "longtime" part of your name into practice?

Probably. Oh well, I am flying out to see this week, and I can explain that even though I spend 21 hours a day of this forum, my useful suggestions for her have been the Blis (? the 2% card that failed) and Bilt that might be denied. I guess I should stop suggesting cards beginning with B. Or she should go with Ask Sebby

Maybe you should start recommending cards for which you do NOT want her approved. I don't know if you can reverse psychology credit card issuers and such, but it might be worth a try.

Right! After two HP on EQ and two denials, a Wells Fargo branch took her notarized documents and talked to BILT so she was finally approved. Somewhat her fault as the issue was that she had put a Google Voice number on the app (which is often a good idea to allow quick recovery of financial accounts if your phone is lost/stolen) but that isn't on her EQ credit report.

Somewhat amazingly, BILT said that they couldn't confirm her identity so they would continue pulling until they could, (despite the fact that the report wasn't going to change as EQ doesn't accept this type of phone number addition from consumers) so she froze EQ. Obviously BILT was able to approve based on the report they had already pulled as there was no complaint about the freeze

Her biggest surprise was just how helpful the WF branch was. My cynical response "I wonder how many accounts they opened up for you" but that's just a cheap shot!

I have and like the BILT card, primarily for the primary car rental insurance benefit with no AF. I live in a SFH and don't rent, so the rent cashback feature doesn't apply for me in my individual case.

My brain froze at $5,000 for rent. That's insane.
