Amex/Primary Rental Car Insurance

What's the cost of purchasing primary rental car using Amex Platinum/Gold & is it calculated on a daily basis or duration of the trip and is it based on the type of the car. Has anybody used this perk in the past. I am aware that Chase Sapphire Preferred has Primary rental car insurance.

Cost and some coverages will vary based on your state of residency according to the terms. That said, for me the available options are $75,000 in coverage for $19.95 or $100,000 coverage for $24.95 per rental. A covered rental period may last up to 42 days (30 days for WA residents).

A sample of the coverage terms from my "Coverage Details"

Option 1
The $100,000 coverage level with a premium of $24.95 ($15.25 for Florida Residents and $17.95 for California Residents) covers:
•  Up to $100,000 of primary damage and theft coverage for the rental car.
•  Up to $100,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage ($250,000 for California Residents).
•  Up to $10,000 of AD&D coverage per passenger ($40,000 for Florida Residents and $250,000 for California Residents).
•  Up to $15,000 per person of excess coverage for Medical Expenses.
•  Up to a maximum of $300,000 combined medical and AD&D coverage per car ($500,000 for California Residents).
•  Up to $5,000 per person of secondary coverage for personal property, maximum of $10,000 for all. (Up to $15,000 per person, maximum of $25,000 for Florida Residents).
• This product does not include coverage for Liability, Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist, or Disability.

Everything is scaled down a bit with the $75k option.

Notes: I don't have a Platinum/Gold. I have this on my Amex BCP. You basically sign up for it in advance, and then it automatically happens when you rent a car using your enrolled card. I've enrolled in it and had it billed when renting, but I've never filed a claim with it. IIRC it is the same regardless of Amex Card, but it has been some time since I've looked into that aspect of it. I hope this helps.

Most AMEX cards offer some rental car CDW, but the details depend on the card. See >this link< to see the specific policies that are included for each card at no additional cost. I don't believe any of them have primary insurance included with the AF, but they do have secondary. As for the difference, the premium cards may have more extensive coverages, for example vehicles up to $75K instead of $50K.

The add-on insurance outline above is primary, at-cost and per-rental. I believe it's available for all AMEX cards.

An interesting detail about the Amex Charles Schwab Investor card is that is also has optional Primary insurance, along with the Platinum concerige.

Does Wells Fargo Bilt have primary coverage, if it does, is it good as Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred
