Hi all, just need some insight. My credit cards are relatively low limits all 500 and under except my usaa. But I'm looking for one, even if starting with a small limit but quickly giving credit limit raise. I've heard that discover is very generous about raising limits even if it starts with a low limit. Any other cards I can look into?

Yes Discover is known to raise limits pretty quickly also Amex can be very generous with lots of spend. If you are eligible for Navy federal that can also be quite generous on starting limits and increases

Just my opinion but I wouldn't count on Discover, as they can be hit or miss on SLs and CLIs. They like to be your main card and also see healthy spend on a regular basis.

Trying to go too fast while building/rebuilding your credit generally results in low limit approvals, and/or eventual outright denials due to what's viewed as aggressive credit seeking. You just got approved for an Amex platinum. Amex can be very generous with CLIs and additional SP approvals. I don't know what cards you currently have but it would be better for you to concentrate on building the limits of those cards through SP CLIs if/when available and allowing more time to build more positive credit history, rather than trying to add new accounts too fast.

If for some reason your other cards are ineligible for CLIs, now or in the near future, I'd recommend sticking with what you have for another 6 months minimum before trying to add any more new accounts.

Generally any CC that allows SP for CLI has potential to grow. That includes Chase and Cap1 (if your not bucketed). As long as you put usage on cards they tend to give you CLI.

I would say setup a strategy to upgrade your existing cards and cancel any cards that are not moving or secure CCs

Make a realistic wish list, and work toward it. I would strongly advise against apping for CCs hoping for high SL just because.

Also it would boost your score if you fully pay all the balance to zero except one card and let that report for one month before apping for anything new.

Quick cli's is probably going to be different for everyone and profile dependent at the time of the cli request.

My quickest 5 to grow with the biggest cli jumps were Macys, Bread 2% Amex, Home Depot, CareCredit and Citi CC 5% MC.

My 5% CreditOne Amex also goes up $250 every 6 months with a sp, but they charge a one time $13.89 fee for every cli they give on that card. Slow growing, but consistent.

Like most things with credit this one is subjective. Are you looking for quality or quantity? If quantity, anyone that doesn't have a hard rule on their CLI's and without a hard pull (Discover's auto CLI button). If quality, i'd have to go NFCU at $8K per raise on their Flagship card if you don't want a HP.

Many of the big banks IME, provided you have a good profile, will give you large limits on reconsideration or if you're okay with a hard pull. Up to you whether or not the hard pulls are okay to have for two years.

They are sort of sub prime ish and can come with big limits.

also remember CLs are heavily dependent on income. a person with a 600 FICO and 200k income will get a higher limit than someone with a 600 FICO and 20k income.

In August 2023 I asked for a $3000 increase and they approved me for $2000, bringing my limit to $2,500 it is now December 2023 and I have been given an upgrade to the Macy's AMEX credit card.
