AMEX Plat - Retention Offer (Accepted)

Year One with card (upgraded from Gold). Travel plans cancelled twice due to family member health issues, so no lounge perks experienced this year. I did maximize the digital entertainment credits for entire year. The MR points upgrade offer already eased some of the pain.

Total spend: just under 19k.

Told CSR that I wish to PC back to the Gold Card, due to uncertainty of my travel this year. Their retention offer was 35,000 points for 4k spend in three months. I haven't been researching recent retention offers, but this felt acceptable to me.

Assuming 3x points on the $4k spend (i.e., not all on dining), that's an 11.8% return, which I'd love to get when I downgrade back to Gold at the end of the year.

based on the big thread about it on flyertalk, it has been varing but retention offers have been really low this year.
