While there can always be exceptions with anything, I'd agree that their 5/24 rule for their core cards is pretty hard and fast for the vast majority of people.

When it comes to Ink cards, again, for most people, the rule still applies at the time of application. However, once approved it doesn't count towards your 5/24. Any business card that doesn't report to your personal credit would count either.

Obviously this article is outdated but this article lists these cards as exceptions to the 5/24:

https://www.rewardexpert.com/blog/exceptions-to-the-chase-524-rule/

Cards You Can Get If You’re Over the 5/24 Rule

Surprisingly, Chase issues several cards that are not subjected to the 5/24 rules. That means you can get these cards if you’ve opened five or more accounts in the last 24 months:

Amazon Rewards Visa Signature

Marriott Rewards Premier Business

British Airways Visa Signature

IHG Rewards Club Premier

IHG Rewards Club Traveler

Ritz-Carlton Rewards

Hyatt Credit Card

Iberia Visa Signature

Aer Lingus Visa Signature

Disney Visa

Starbucks Rewards Visa

Chase AARP Credit Card

I don't tend to watch those types of videos on YouTube or social media because the titles are usually clickbait, the person is misinformed, or they're not telling the full truth. It's 100% possible to be approved at or above 5/24, though extremely unlikely. Same with a BK showing on your reports. Chase has a 10 year rule, but approvals still happen. If they're being approved, it could simply be they are counting something that shouldn't be counted. They could also be misleading people by becoming authorized users or using someone else's card as a prop. It's hard to say. Typically those types of videos aren't very transparent nor do they provide proof other than holding a card up with the name blacked out for "safety".

Since inks don't go on your personal credit report, they won't count for 5/24. Chase also doesn't like "know" and count any opened ink cards in a 5/24 calculation for future apps.

5/24 is still very much an ink denial reason, it's just not a 100% always get denied kind of thing like it is for the core cards.

I was going to start a NEW CHASE thread, but I saw this one and it's sorta related so I thought I would add it here. For those current CHASE customers that are just wating to get under 5/24 to app for a CC, once you hit 4/24, are you immediately seeing offers in the "Just for you" or "Credit Journey" section? If not, how long after? Possible to not see any offers after reaching 4/24? Just curious.

As a word of advice, don't blindly follow CC YouTubers without vetting them first. There are a lot of misinformation channels drowning out the actual good ones (I can personally vouch for Ask Sebby and Ben Hedges / Credit Shifu)

Just curious.

Anecdotal, correlation vs. causation and all that, but sitting at 4/24 last month, I had "already approved" offers in "My Offers" for every Chase card I didnt already have.

A few days after being approved for the CSP - putting me at 5/24 - they all dissappeared. Will have to wait ~9 months to see if they come back when I am once again below 5/24.

And to avoid feelings of "Holier than Thou" as I sometimes point out, even MyFico is not free from errors (gasp!)

People (including me on occasion) post things that are wrong. Also, people ask a poster for detailed stats (cards, balances etc) and then give what is at best an informed guess posted with certainty, or often just suggest their current favorite card.

And, correctly, when I point this out, people show the real difference: Here, wrong/doubtful information can be corrected, or at least challenged and discussed. And everything is approximately equal, all the posts look about equivalent in importance. With youtube, the main video stays up, and you would have to scroll through lots of comments to decide if the information was really considered reliable.

But hey, moving pictures are cool!

youtube and tiktok are tabloids that are less to be believed that the National Enquirer.

LOL

that said, I never had "just 5 inquiries" while getting approved for ANY Chase card, and while I understnd policy change and an inflationary environment , I dont believe this it's a hard and fast rule in any capacity.

and if it is, you can probably recon your way out of it if your score/income are decent. I will never forget getting approved for my Chase freedom card with a 650'ish FICO WITH $5k SL (that I later moved around and what not)

good luck either way.
